You need to provide more info, like where you live, as not all chains are in all areas. And are you using "casual" as a substitute for "not-pricey"? Or do you mean "casual" as "not-fancy"?

But regardless of all that, try avoiding any national chains and look for an established restuarant in your neighborhood. Chances are, like most small of family-owned restaurants, they've been hit harder by the recession than the big chains and need as much business as they can get. You can use Yelp to find restaurants in your area and read reviews.

One more suggestion: Check out www.restaurant.com to find a nice discount. (There are rules and restrictions involved, but as long as you're aware of them the discounts can be awesome. Sign up for the newsletter first so you can get the discount codes for 50% to 80% off the certificate price.)

I'm a big fan of the Costa Vida type restaurant. That's almost verging on fast food, but a lot tastier, healthier and not much (if at all) more expensive.

Does that count as casual dining though? Or does casual dining still include a waitress?

Most "casual dining" restaurants I go to are local and not a national chain.

I love Chipotle (and Freebirds) for "casual fast dining" though.
