Should @stores be removed from the leaderboard?

@stores seems to be a reward for retailers who are slamming deals.woot. They're still getting links from DW long after their listings are deleted. Following the lead of the Chinese spammers @mividazul, @buyzul & @leftlanesports are bogging down the pages with deals that no one is voting for and being rewarded for it.

I'm not only proposing that those names be removed from @stores. I am proposing that the @stores section be removed unless a change can be made to prevent this.

@glindagw: what is wrong with Leftlanesports? I like them, actually I used to buy from them when I ran a lot - shhhh don't tell my boss he thinks I buy all my running clothes at the store.

@hobbit: I debated about whether or not to add them to the question because of some of the more flagrant violators mentioned. @leftlanesports IS NOT an example of a counterfeiter or disreputable site. The good news is that they don't seem to be resubmitting the same items over and over again anymore.

They are posting several items a day which gets them on the leaderboard despite very few votes for their items. That's why I included their name as part of the question.

I think that if their listings are deleted, they should be removed from the @stores list, but keep the list as a way to see where the most deals are coming from today.

Wow, I clearly see 4 comments, and yet at the bottom of the question box it says 1 comment. This must be the bug I keep seeing mentioned?

@reemus: I would love to see that if it's possible. Today's Trends is my favorite part of the leaderboard. However, I would rather lose @stores than provide an incentive for mass postings.

I would prefer that the algorithm for @stores be changed from most deals posted, to most votes posted, which would slow down the garbage that shows up there, and reward places that had good items posted, and voted for.

As it is, it just rewards flooding.

@sand4me: it is the bug thing. and the voting bug is back too.

@shrdlu: I like that idea. Plus it would mean that Amazon may not always be at the top - unlikely but possible.

@glindagw: btw did you tattle on those deals? to make staff aware of the sketchiness of what is going on with the 'zul stores at least? I see three accounts posting them and responding in comments.

@hobbit: Yes I took care of it early this morning. Between that and an overzealous wooter the first couple of pages were a mess when I woke up.

I almost feel like we need a question in ATW where we can check in with "tattled on so and so."

Geez, why so negative?

You have to vote up more before you can vote down.

Don't get us wrong. Negativity has its place. And downvotes are just as essential as upvotes when it comes to making Deals.Woot a useful place to find deals.

But when your votes lean so heavily toward the dark side, we have to wonder. Go vote up a few things. Accentuate the positive for a little while. It'll do you some good, and it'll do the site some good, too. Then you can get back to dealing out the smackdowns, OK?
