I occasionally participate in them. I used to enjoy them, then I decided they were a royal PIA since they crowded out all the other deals, and lately I've decided I don't care all that much about who can find what where.

I neither love nor hate themed deals.

I have no problem with theme days when there is a legitimate reason such as today being Woot's B-day and when some favorite staffers left. Randon theme days though bug me a bit but I usually just ignore those things and move on

Sometimes something needs to be done to relieve the boredom.

@morriea: true and these theme days do spark deal postings which have been slower than usual as of late

Maybe. On occasion I jump right in at the deep end, others I just watch along the sidelines. Theme days can, however, provide some entertaining deals.

I enjoy the theme days. Nothing wrong with bringing a little fun back to this place. Plus, with all the "deals" that are really just companies hawking their schlock, I don't really look at it as making it difficult to find the real deals. The real deals are few and far between anyway.

I like them, it gives me something fun to search for and a reason to care. The "deals" are rarely real deals anymore since places like Daily Steals fill the popular page with their crap. I've really begun to dislike vendor post. I wish they had a special tab for those.

I love theme days because the real Woot Community gets involved again and posts things we can trust. I am so tired of seeing junk, spam, and crap posted by the same companies every day.

I enjoy it. If you really don't want to see a specific themed deal, you could always do an advanced search to remove said theme from being included. I like when the community rallies together for lawls.

Obviously since I posted about posting Birthday themed deals I'm for it.
Honoring a particular whatever the theme is, is a very nice thing. And fun too ( imo.)

It's a challenge of sorts, to find a deal that must fit certain parameters. (And I did specify that they should be deals on my thread ---yes, some maybe not as much discount as others, depending on how cool/desirable the item)

And as others have said, Deals is so clogged with spam and non deal deals, I can't see how it could hurt the board. I think it gives a little lift to the spirit of Woot.

Plus, when we band together to do something and they fill the popular page, it shows that we really do still have the power of the board. I think folks get down and gripe about Deals, here is proof that it is what we make it .

Enjoy the Birthday of Cakes Wootizens. I am off to a couple appointments and will miss it. Maybe catch the very end... ROGETRAY did say til 5p

Happy Birthday Woot !

I'm okay with theme days from time to time; I think they're fun. BUT I agree with @Ceagee . . . I think people should post things that are actually good deals. It's very easy to go to Amazon, type in "birthday" and post the first thing you see, but if it's a set of paper birthday napkins that costs $8 to ship, that's not a deal and it's just clogging the site.

Also, for the record, I am not a business hawking my stuff. I post things that I think are a good price that I think people might actually want. I know there's still a few of us around. . .

Was the first theme day the crabs ? Seems like few are around anymore that were involved in that but I thought that was a crazy day or two it really rolled into almost a week. However, it was awesome because they did a free T-shirt to folks who posted crab deals. I still have it and to the best of my knowledge you can't buy it even with the whole catalog being available.

I often have to explain it but it's a funny story.

It's Woot's birthday? Great! Now, please stay out of the way while I look for something useful. :)

The story behind this reporter's opinion, is that he hates theme days.

I enjoy the theme days. It shows the old sense of community that I hope can be preserved. I did make an effort to post my birthday themed deal from a clearance page, so it was on sale, but even some of the less-than-deal items posted are entertaining.

To do this a few times a year is fun. I wouldn't want to see it happen too often, as it can get in the way of serious deal shopping. Of course, I am trying to cut back on my spending so maybe I NEED just themed days!

vote-for4vote-against

I don't particularly care for the theme days, as they tend to lessen the chance that I would actually purchase something on said day.

vote-for5vote-against

@djbowman: It was a free crab shirt to anyone who voted on those days (maybe voted on a crab deal, maybe just voted at all). I know I got the free shirt but definitely didn't post any crab deals. And, definitely didn't upvote any crab deals either.

@chimpygomonkey: Have you considered posting some deals of your own, then? That would help offset the theme deals that you just down-vote anyway.

Love them, especially when folks find odd and unusual items fitting the day's theme.
