What are you doing about these sky-rocketing hard drive prices?
Due to the flooding in Thailand Hard Drive prices have sky-rocketed...I was getting ready to build several machines, but now I'm debating what I should do...one of which was going to be a data server.
Just looked again this morning and 2TB drives are about $400!
320GB drives that were $40 a few weeks ago are over $90 now!

Go SSD.
I have been storing up food to last a few years and working at Bass Pro Shops to learn all I can about surviving in the wilderness as TSHTF: bow-hunting, fishing, water-skiing, etc.
I was just about to ask a similar question! I hadn't heard it was because for the flooding. I guess that answers my question. I wanted to upgrade the 4 2 TB hdds in my server to 4 3 TB drives, but I guess it'll have to wait. With SSDs getting cheaper and bigger I'll have to keep an eye on those!
Like durkzilla suggested, I took the opportunity to trade my smaller rarely used laptop from it's 5oo gig drive to a 120 ssd and was amazed that the boot time changed from 2 minutes to 45 seconds.. it's smaller but I only use it when traveling so the hd size really wasn't important.. I would REALLY like to get a large one for my desktop now that I've seen how fast they make your machine....
I HAVE GIANT ZFS RAID ARRAYS SO I CAN USE OLD USED HARD DRIVES.
