I love Halloween. It's been kinda corrupted though. Not much door to door activity here, and what there is, are kids from other neighborhoods whose parents put them in the car and drive them to as many places as possible to get as much possible for as little money as possible. They don't wear costumes. They have on a pair of jeans, a white tee and a mask. And a big azz pillowcase. The adults literally drive them from door to door. Usually in trucks so they can fit a gang of kids in. The other kids go to Harvest Festivals, the mall or Trick and Trunk at their local churches.

Also, adult Halloween parties are great fun. But I think maybe that adults are taking over Halloween. I think it should stay with the kids, should be neighborhood oriented and keep religion out of it. I certainly never considered it to be anything but a fun night to run around with my friends, see my neighbors, get some candy and stay up too late from eating it LOL

yup, we'd always have to scrape something together though. dad's uniform, a borrowed cheerleader skirt and pompoms. i never had a real cool costume, but i loved trick or treating!

i asked at work if anyone dresses up and was told no. some office jobs join in the fun, where the guys all end up wearing jeans and a football jersey lol. i went to the dollar store and bought all kinds of Halloween junk to put up at work and then reuse at my house. i already have candy ready for this year woohoo. of course i had to sample it, make sure it's safe candy for the kids

Now that I'm older it's a bigger deal.

I still go trick or treating with friends. I get weird looks and I just say "What?"
They give me candy.

It still is a big deal. Now that my gang of friends all have jobs/cash on hand, we go all out! Bawls to the wall.

My 4 year old daughter and I have dressed up in pairs for the last 2 years. First year I was Spongebob and she was Patrick and last year we were both pirates. I think it is great fun and she loves it because she gets to choose the theme.

That was in the day of Zots, Durkee Turkish Taffy and candy cigarettes. The rumors of razor blades in candy apples started when I was young (mid/late 70s). Kids in my area just don't seem to try as hard to make a good costume these days.

@lavikinga: Bonomo! Bonomo! Not Durkee. Jeesh. I AM getting old. I miss those nasty little was bottle liquid things and stupid wax lips, and getting king sized candy bars.

The days of good, home-made, inventive costumes are GONE! I can't tell you how many time I repurposed junk from the garage. More often than not, the selection from the garage kind of decided what you were going to dress up for halloween.
