Nothing that exotic, just a big fat green worm crawling around in DH's salad at the Storybook Cafe at Grand Californian Hotel at the Disneyland resort.

They were good about it, though. They comped his salad.

Nothing too interesting. I once found a weird worm in a bottle of tequila.

There was a snail crawling in my salad once. This was in the wardroom at a military academy.

I found a box of doughnuts that had a hundreds of new-born flies in it. I was pretty young, but the first thing that came to mind was "I wonder if I could sue these guys for this.." heh

There've been quite a few instances like that - just recently I found a couple moths living in the doughnut shelves at the store.. there were some flying around in the container and there were a couple living in a doughnut..

@drchops: "I think I just threw up in my mouth a little"

@dmaz: I'm pretty sure the chef was just trying to fancy up the place and serve you some of that es-car-gots

Hair is the weirdest thing I can recall finding in my food, as long as it's not short and curly I'll continue to eat. I have no problem with hair when it's on a persons head why should you be insanely disgusted when a piece happens to fall off. Long and straight, keep the plate.

@drchops: Um hey dude i think you should stop buying doughnuts

When I was a teenager, I was having a bowl of soup for lunch. I grabbed the Saltine crackers to crush up into the soup, and the open sleeve of crackers had tons of little red ants crawling around in it. Not a pleasant surprise.

Large wingnut in my salad. I was just lucky I didn't break a tooth. I'd glanced down and saw it before I popped it into my mouth. We called the manager over and he said it had fallen off the tomato dicer and the dicer was useless without it, so the staff were scrambling to find it. Our lunches were free that day!

I shattered one of my molars on a pearl I found in an oyster.

Half of a small cockroach in a carton of take out House Fried Rice. Half. Discovered it the next day when scooping out left overs. NEVER went back to that restaurant again AND it was years before I could eat fried rice made anywhere other than my own kitchen.

Recently in a bag of organic oats (farmers market bought) I found a TON of grain WEEVILS!!!!

I was so freaked out that I purged the pantry, bleached it, and haven't seen those critters since. WTH weevils?

vote-for4vote-against

@yrguide: weevils happen in any grain based product, especially when not heated or chemically treated to repell them.

i saw the kroger had a sale on cheeto puffs. i checked the date, and bought three bags when i got home i set it on the shelf till two days later. i opened the bag, poured it on my plate with my sandwich then went to set for a while. after i had been eating for a while i glanced at the plate and noticed my "cheese" was crawling away. next day i tried to quietly return all three bags to the same kroger. they tried to accuse me of pulling something, until one girl poured some on the counter and the "cheese" was still crawling: she screamed.

My husband finished off his glass of tea at a locally owned seafood place last year and discovered a 1/2" dead german cockroach at the bottom of the glass. Last time we ate there.

I remember as a small child my brother had poured a can of chef boy-ar-dee in a bowl and heated it up. A few minutes later we were watching TV and as he picked up the last mini ravioli with his fork he started screaming when he noticed the cockroach in the bottom of his bowl.

I remember my dad laughing and telling him "Don't worry, I doubt he ate much!"

I personally ran into some weevils a few months ago in some malt-o-meal I had but to be fair the box had been sitting open for several months. I don't think they came from my house as I've never seen them since but who knows?

And speaking of fried rice a girl from school found a band-aid in hers once during lunch. It made her throw up. It made the rest of us laugh at her! Some kid in my class took her rice, picked out the band-aid and finished it off for her!

I probably shouldn't mention how we would find bugs from time to time in the bottom of the cones at the DQ I used to work at. We had to look down each one just to be sure!

@autotechinstl: Ok I'm never eating at DQ again.. I needed that bit of info-it'll help me stick to the good old diet

@moosezilla: Any means to prevent them once I get them home? I'd prefer to buy organic/untreated but man I don't want a family of weevils in my pantry in Brooklyn.
