vote-for2vote-against

this is for @josefresno cause I know he just LOVES getting email from me.

vote-for2vote-against

@hobbit: Well, as you'd noticed, I told them things were wonky. Guess now they're even wonkier. /me waves at @josefresno and @shawnmiller, and smiles ever so sweetly.

[Edit] Wow, I just looked. Now that's really messed up!

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: I told you! Okay I am off to bed now.

vote-for2vote-against

@josefresno can fill in the details, but our weekly process that cleans up orphaned data on the user tabs failed this weekend. We came up with a smarter way to implement this process today and @josefresno is going to code it up tomorrow.

vote-for2vote-against

@shawnmiller: Does this mean poor @hobbit will get her life back on Wednesday?

vote-for1vote-against

@shawnmiller: So this isn't a side effect of the new reputation system that's planned? Good, I'm sooo close to the leaderboard I'm not sure I want you to mix things up just yet :-p

vote-for2vote-against

@hobbit @shrdlu It is actually a side-effect of an increase in the number of wooters using deals.woot.com.
(which is a good thing in it's own way).... Did I use "effect" correctly?

vote-for2vote-against

@josefresno: You used effect correctly (I'm amused that you asked), but it will be nice when Deals gets out of the interminable beta test we seem to be trapped in. Are you saying that Ms Hobbit not being able to see anything she's voted on is a side effect? I think of this as more like a bug. Side effects are when the constant (but fractional) number that is the difference in my reputation after one vote up, or after one new comment, changes slightly. Merely amusing, and causes me to revamp my calculations.

I don't mean to sound unpleasant (text does not convey meaning in quite the same way as the timbre of a voice, or facial expressions), but it seems to me to be more than a side effect. Just saying.

[Edit] Lucky me. I just realized that you are now in the same time zone, so for you, it's still early.

vote-for2vote-against

@josefresno: I have to agree with @shrdlu a side effect would be affecting more than just me. The only deals that show up which I voted on are ones I voted on after I posted this question. I guess I wonder if others are experiencing this too, and then again why me? Or am I just the quickest to notice?

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbit: FWIW, my history looks fine (best as I can tell).

vote-for2vote-against

@hobbit: My page is pretty messed up too... Just thought I'd let you know that you're not lost in the Twilight Zone all alone.

vote-for2vote-against

@hobbit: Interesting to note that the deals I voted on actually display where it says "commented".

vote-for2vote-against

@mmaurice01: Interesting......I wonder if that dovetails in with what @shrdlu discovered on Sunday. Because you are right the deals I voted for do show up there and I KNOW I didn't comment on them. I just voted for them. @josefresno you reading this???????? You may have merged your databases together funny.

vote-for3vote-against

Okay, in addition to the other problems reported, I'm seeing the constant server error anytime I attempt to look at ANYONE'S member status stuff (you know, from that link that says "All Woot Activity").

Here's an example:

http://members.woot.com/errors/500.html?aspxerrorpath=/tygerdave

Ow, make it stop.

Please (@shawnmiller @josefresno).

vote-for1vote-against

@shrdlu: That's a problem - The error path should never be tygerdave!

Are these issues similar to the ones @dealzombie was having or something different?

as an aside - was @dealzombie ever unmasked?

vote-for2vote-against

@tygerdave: You know, and I mean this in the very kindest of ways, you are beginning to look just a bit like a karma whore[tm].

As an aside, I have no idea what errors you are speaking of with our occasional friend, and boon companion, @dealzombie. In addition, it just might be that you don't want to unmask a zombie. I would certainly recommend against it. Besides, sometimes one prefers not to look behind the curtain. I also don't pursue the explanation behind magic tricks. I like them the way they are.

vote-for5vote-against

@shrdlu: We are working on these things. In the meantime, I am trying to come up with a clean limerick for my poor ol Subaru that bit the bullet in Seattle last Friday the 13th. (nobody was hurt)

http://grab.by/5WKK

There once was a car named Julio.
That everyone thought was quite coolio.
It went to Seattle
but lost in a battle.
So sing a lament for ol' Julio.

vote-for1vote-against

@josefresno: awwwwww poor Julio. were you going down a hillio?

I should point out I guess, because I am in the mood. I learned to drive a stick on the hills of Seattle - litterally.

vote-for3vote-against

@shrdlu: Karma Whore indeed :-p. hmmm what errors could I be talking about.. maybe the ones you discovered when YOU were trying to unmask the @dealzombie!!!

Bah-bah-bum: http://deals.woot.com/questions/comment/d8567710-8672-441b-9949-263fd67fa72a

(cue shocked gasps from the crowd)
(cue glare from @shrdlu and explanation about how I'm wrong)

vote-for2vote-against

@hobbit: Ya, quite steep hills round here it seems. I could blame it on my wife's driving skilz, but that wouldn't be very nice :)

vote-for1vote-against

@josefresno: My old boss had a sweet Subaru that had a clutch that sort held on until you got the clutch ready. Otherwise get an automatic with at least front wheel drive. All wheel drive is over kill. Welcome to the Emerald city, I loved growing up there but... well I like warm and sun better now.

vote-for1vote-against

@josefresno: Oh, a limerick! Elegant, proper to the form, even clean (as opposed to 94.79% of them). Why yes, that is my favorite number right now, thanks for asking.

[Edit] Just saw the picture. I'm glad you are uninjured. Pity it's not SF, since you don't really need to have a car there. Public transportation in Seattle is merely okay.

[Edit again} My, what would I do without that five minute window? I see that the error on the member database was fixed a while ago, and thank you. The limerick made me forget my manners for a moment.

vote-for1vote-against

@shrdlu: merely okay? If you live in the city you don't need a car. Actually if you live in the burbs you only need a car to go grocery shopping, since you can ride the bus everywhere. If you want merely okay come to Charlotte, then where I live which is just dismal, but at least we have buses.

vote-for1vote-against

@josefresno and @shawnmiller: Well, I can see that the crawling crud has finally gotten to my account. You must have been working your way backwards. Is there any ETA on when you are going to have this fixed?

I normally browse the questions from the usertab, via questions I've commented on (and then deals I've commented on). Nothing like seeing ZERO on both sides to really start off the day. Perhaps @jumbowoot could provide insight as to a time when this will all just be a bad memory?

vote-for1vote-against

I see that anything I've done TODAY is now showing up. I am keeping the comments I'd like to make to myself until I've had more coffee, but they aren't very nice ones.

vote-for1vote-against

@shrdlu within the next day. The fix is currently on our testing/staging server.

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu Well, the commented tab is being rebuilt: http://deals.woot.com/questions/users/josefresno/commented However, comment references are not showing up in the correct order.... just an FYI that we are aware of this.

vote-for1vote-against

@josefresno: They are showing up in precisely the reverse order. I feel like I've been time traveling, and it's not actually a feeling that I was hoping for. In addition, there's some things that don't seem to make any sense at all. Can't you just roll back the code for the last while until all this is fixed? Please. :-(

When do you think the "Voted" stuff will be fixed? If you saw my face right now, it would make you sad.

[Edit] In addition, on the question side it's in Reverse order. I can't even figure out what going on now with the Deals side.

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: ahh how I wish it was a code issue that could be simply rolled back. But it is a data issue. We just deployed a worker to crank through the user tabs. Should all be back to normal this eve...

vote-for1vote-against

@josefresno: I'm afraid to say this, but the comments appear to be back to normal. Gott in Himmel, but I've made a lot of comments. Will the votes follow? They're not nearly as important, but it'd still be nice.

Thank you (and thank your unnamed subordinate).

[Edit] I spoke too soon, didn't I. It's still pretty jumbled up, but at least it's getting slowly better.

vote-for1vote-against

Mr Fresno, sir...Not that you want to hear more bad news, but I think I've asked more questions than are currently showing. Deliberately NOT using the mention facility that sends you email, just making a point for later.

vote-for5vote-against

@shrdlu: you have asked exactly 90 Questions, all of which I do believe are shown in the proper order.

The worker is still on the Deal-Commented user tab... It is currently ignoring users with an exclamation point "!" or single quote "'" in their name, but seems to be moving along... (we will deal with those crazy usernames after the majority of the users get their tabs back)

It should get to Votes some time tonight.... it is working in the order of Deal-Comments, Deal-Votes, Question-Comments and lastly Question-Votes lots of data to clean up. I believe we identified the gremlin that caused this issue to happen in the first place, so hopefully user tabs will be back to normal tomorrow and for a long time after that!

vote-for1vote-against

@josefresno: Thank you very much, and thank you for all the time you've taken to answer my questions. Yes, you're right about the questions. I worry too much.

Exactly 90? I may have to do something to fix that. Shrdlu hates the even numbers, and such an uninteresting one, too. At least I should bump it up to 93 (two factors only).

No need to reply (unless you feel like it). I just wanted to say thanks.
