Traveling I-45 from Dallas to Houston is BORING. So, going 90-100 can end up being a cruising speed for a clump of cars who want to get it over with. I once got my Focus up to 125 and it was still pretty smooth sailing! I just didn't feel good about continuing to go that fast.

I no longer have a car. You're welcome, world.

130+. I drive over 115 on a regular basis. But I drive on the Autobahn so it's cool.

145, on an autobahn. My toes were curling round the throttle pedal as if to be able to pull it up quicker would make a difference...even though most drivers there are aware that there are some cars that are going at very high speeds, you come up on other vehicles so quickly that it was a fairly stressful event worrying about what might happen.

@pg318: Do you check your tires before you attempt those speeds? Going that fast on bad tires can be disastrous. I wonder how many people actually check their tires before they drive on the autobahn at those speeds...?

Everytime I drive over 87 MPH I wind up stuck in 1955 at something called the "Enchantment Under the Sea" dance.

130 mph in a '77 Plymouth Volare. Station wagon. With woodgrain panels.

130 in a 1973 240z with bad tires.
Got pulled over after I was slowing down doing 90 in a 55 in downtown Atlanta.
That one cost me a good ass-chewing by the State Patrol, a city judge, 6 points, and $400.

Well...shortly after getting a license, I hit 90 on a country road at night. Problem was, I saw a sign and realized I was about 50 feet from a T intersection. I slammed on the brakes, and had to do an action movie style turn at the last second to fling the car around and avoid ramming into the ditch. After a loud squeal, I was safely stopped on the edge of the road.

@hossdawg97: As long as you don't make out with your mom, everything will be okay.

vote-for3vote-against

@omnichad: 90mph to zero in 50 feet is pretty impressive. How's the gas mileage on your formula 1 car?

vote-for3vote-against

145 mph - 08' mustang GT (governed top speed)
149 mph - 02 R6 (scared to go any faster) and i know it isn't a car.

vote-for5vote-against

@hossdawg97: Nice. I was going to go with "I once went 88 MPH 30 years from now". Yours wins.

I purchased a brand new Nissan Z 370 earlier this year - about the 3rd day I owned it I was pulled over by a cop on the freeway after hitting a speed trap.

I think the cop was full of it because I never saw my speed go over 95 MPH, but he said he clocked me at 101 MPH and wanted to hear my explaination. I informed him that I had just purchased the vehicle and that in order to familiarize myself with the handling and performance I was experimenting with it in an environment I was both familiar and comfortable with. I considered that paticular stretch of freeway a controlled and safe environment to get a feel for the car, which was the truth - except I had been driving it that fast for the past 3 days.

I was pulled over on the side of the road for like 30 minutes, I was convinced I was going to jail for felony speeding and was making arrangements with my wife via text. He then gave me back all my stuff and told me to be safer in the future. I'm never pushing my luck again

@ryanwb: My first speeding ticket was in a Nissan 240SX. Interesting that you got just a warning, that's some luck..

168 (Toyota Supra) on a closed course.... ;)

My wife went into pre-mature labor. 110 mph, got me to the hospital in 15 mins. 45 mins later, she had the baby! I won't go into that story, it is freaky! Baby and mom were fine, 10 years later it's all good!

So I signed my name on number 24, hey!
Yeah the judge said, "Boy, just one more
I'm gonna throw your ass in the city joint"
Looked me in the eye, said, "You get my point?"
I said "Yeah!, Oh yea!"

Looks like 168 is the highest reported, so I will say 170. I was about to have a case of explosive diarrhea and that can get really nasty on the interstate.

145 in houston during rush hour. it was a long time ago and i was young.

vote-for1vote-against

probably like 95, but I drive a 92 ford pickup straight shift. and that 95 was on an downward incline

A long, long time ago. I took my Shelby 350 up I-95 when it had just opened and there were no police assigned. From just north of Vero Beach to just south of Jacksonville, I pegged it. Took the approx 200 miles in 90 minutes or approx 145 mph.
Fastest I was ever in a car was at Daytona raceway in a racing Corvette with a friend driving at 180 mph.

@laalo: Judging by some of the wrecks I see, not often enough.

Drove from southern Cal to northern Oregon in one sitting. As I hit the last hill before a long straight, I hit 100mph in my (first) car. The steering wheel was solid, but the rest of the car started rumbling, so I decided it may be a good idea to slow down otherwise I feared things might start falling off.

vote-for1vote-against

@brutherford: 168mph on a Supra? Is this stock or modded?

vote-for1vote-against

130+ - you hit this smooth zone that's a relaxing rush.

vote-for1vote-against

Something a bit over 200MPH in an SX on a long and boring stretch of highway. Was as fast as it was able to go before running out of power. Also took a Ford Escort well past the limits of its speedometer through a construction zone (on a Sunday, so nobody was working it).
