I found the site through a google search sometime in 2005 and joined shortly thereafter, 11/24/2005. I stalked the site till 9/15/2007 when I bought my first shirt and first woot, Ka-Boom (http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=3773)

I had no idea what as happening when I saw a woot-off, so I quickly went to the What is Woot! page to see if there was an explanantion

my internet provider wrote about it in their weekly enewsletter way back in '05 as something that was a must check out and see. So I checked it out and signed up in June of 2005. I lurked for a long time, so yea I had a good idea of what was going on by the time I did manage to make my first woot.

I didn't woot until October 2005 and I bought the Sushi at home kit http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=376, I thought I would make a lovely white elephant gift for the Christmas party that would be coming at work in a couple of months. I THINK it was even a woot-off but I am not entirely sure. The kit was a hit at the holiday party, it was the gift that everyone fought over and wanted to take home.

I probably watched the site for quite a while before I created an account. My initial reason for creating an account was that I wanted that particular user name, and have encountered some collisions in the namespace where someone else is using it. In some of those cases, that person has not bothered to mention to people that they aren't me (on Twitter, for example, the "shrdlu" there is not me, and I get the occasional surprised query from friends).

I joined in May of 2006 (after I'd retired, and regained the ability to have a private life), but made no purchase until Jan of 2007. It was a Netgear USB wireless network dongle, which I happened to need at the time, and was happy to have. The rest is history.

I found the site because I was searching for something, and it had been a woot item a few days before. It must have been sometime in early 2006, because I would have ignored any extraneous items before then.

I stumbled across the site sometime in 2006. I joined to buy something during a woot-off that I was unprepared for in April, 2007 (so sorry, too slow). I finally bought a Sansa (to lose instead of my iPod on a trip) October 5, 2007.

I've bought a lot of things on woot but I think that I've had the most fun with purchases from wine.woot & shirt.woot. I have never purchased bacon salt, a zune, dyson, roomba or BOC. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a glow-in-the-dark monkey (in the next 30 minutes...not likely).

I use a headline aggregator called Daily Rotation.
One of the web sites in their top 50 headline category listed a deal on Woot. So I clicked through. This was late in 2006. I didn't like that days deal but was intrigued with the site so I bookmarked it and checked it regularly. Then my mom asked me for help buying an MP3 player for my wife. My wife is no techie, so an ipod would have been a waste of money. I had seen inexpensive MP3 players before so I started checking every day. Woot soon had a deal on the RCA Lyra M2030 512MB MP3 Player. I signed up, purchased one and started my road to woot-a-holic.

I heard about the site from a coworker and joined a couple days later in October of last year. He had informed me about woot-offs and the infamouse BOCs. I have been through every woot-off since and it has still evaded me. My first woot were the random Christmas cards on 10/13/09 http://www.woot.com/blog/viewentry.aspx?id=9509. My first shirt.woot purchase was the Illustrated Ratings Guide on 10/14/09 http://shirt.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=9516

I have since become a woot and now deals.woot addict... :)

I joined in May of '06 after hearing about it from a coworker. First purchase was a wireless keyboard and mouse combo. I think I've managed to catch every wootoff there has been since then, but still haven't managed to obtain a BOC. Plenty of screaming monkeys, mp3 players (great gifts for nieces and nephews), and other tech stuff since then. It's even better now with deals.woot to enjoy!

I do not remember how I found woot. But my purchases seem to have a trend: tech, tech, tech, tech, kitchen, tech, tech, tech, tech, outdoors, tech, etc. BOC's have been elusive, but not unknown. I own no i-anything, but I have many i-anything accessories. Not all came from the bowels of woot. I have tried several sources of mystery purchases. I feel that I have received better value from woot. I have bought some refurb's with mixed success. Some I can fix.

Hi, I'm bsalusa. I'm a woot-aholic. Currently, I'm not interested in a 12-step program intervention.

@bsalusa: I second the not owning ianything. I will never buy an isomething.

I joined on 1/18/06 and lurked till I bought a hard drive on 4/13/06. I don't recall exactly where I heard about it, but I know it was an article that described how Woot sells one item a day. I'd never really heard of daily deal sites back then. They went on to say how it appealed to college students and tech geeks. I figured it would be only a matter of time before someone would find out my age and kick me out (I was 48 in 2006).

I joined in November of 2004, and bought my first item (a Robomower) six days later. There was an article in a Fort Worth newspaper about Woot that mentioned all the good deals to be found. I was immediately intrigued, and drawn in by their funny writers. I read "what is woot", so knew what a woot-off was. What confused me was the yellow bar shrinking instead of expanding. It seemed backwards. I got the bag of crap three times in the early days, the last was in July 2005. That does not include the one we black box wooters got a little while back, or the one from when I toured Woot Headquarters. Along the way, I bought quite a few Woot Shirts as well.

vote-for2vote-against

Would you 'fess up to it if you learned about Woot on Good Morning America?

@faughtey: Does the Robomower work?

One of my daughter's professor's told the class about Wootoffs one day in the fall of '06. My daughter, knowing my obsession with good deals, told me.
I didn't actually join until the first time I wanted to purchase something. My favorite Woot purchase was an Adaptec USB 2.0 6-Port Card. I recieved it in the mail, handed it to my husband, and asked him to install it.
The look on his face was priceless.
"Do you know what this is?" he asked.
Yes, it's more USB ports.
"Why do you need more USB ports?"
Because my computer doesn't have enough and I have to unplug stuff when I need to use other stuff.
He shook his head in wonder and installed it.
I may not be a techno whiz, and I might not have known how to install it, but I knew what I needed. Still using it. Had him take it out of my old computer and install it in the new one. Though with this computer, it may be possible to have too many USB ports.

I found out about woot reading them in a magazine article. Then mentioned something about selling puke green vacuum cleaners for cheap because no one wanted it. For some reason, that interested me. I bought my 1st item on March 22nd 2009 which was a Dazzle DVD Recorder. http://www.woot.com/blog/viewentry.aspx?id=7670

I didn't know what to think when I first saw a woot-off, but clicking the flashing lights changed that quickly.

I found out about Woot from a local forum that I belong to. I think I looked around for about a month before I created an account. I created my account when I saw something I wanted I believe. First purchase was Thomas the Engine Knapford Station Wooden Railroad Set from Kids.woot on Feb 22, 2010. For my kids birthday in May. Very cool. I have been through 2 wootoffs and enjoyed them...maybe a bit too much. Getting my first BOC from this wootoff and very excited about that. I have only been an actual woot member for just over a month!

@glindagw: Yes, the Robomower is great! I had an acre of land to mow, but only wired off about 1/3 of it for the Robomower. The horses did a good job keeping the grass in check, and I got a riding mower for the rest. The Robomower is in storage now, but still worked a year ago. The riding mower was only used for two years and is sitting around waiting for me to sell it on Craigslist.

I saw this question earlier and didn't reply because I couldn't remember exactly how I discovered Woot. I remember now. I saw this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBW9z0FLBpw) on YouTube. That brings back memories.

It wasn't until last May that I made by first purchase, though. I bought this set of speakers (http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=8229) during a Woot-Off. Best $50 speakers I've ever owned.

@bsalusa: I agree no 12-step program intervention for me yet.

I heard about Woot sometime in 2004 and then read an article in the Wall Street Journal about the site, probably by Walt Mossberg. I created an account in October 2004, but waited until Spring 2005 to order my first thing: a Rio Cali 128mb MP3 player. Over the years I've picked up a lot of good information from the forums, even if I don't always need the item when it is posted.

@chris12345: I still can't remember. That's what prompted me to ask this question. It wasn't until after I asked it that I learned that woot was on GMA yesterday. I was recently asked at a cocktail party "You work online, have you heard of this wooth, wood, wooty, something like that site?".

@glindagw: LOL That had to be an interesting conversation!

A buddy was telling me about some widget he had bought super cheap on some new website. Being on the thrifty side myself, I decided to check it out. I lurked for a while, then made my first purchase in March of '05. I got a refurbed HP Scanjet 5550C Flatbed Scanner with ADF for a song. I was hooked.

Then came t-shirts, sellout, kids' stuff, and finally deals. Can't buy wine in my state, so wine.woot is more or less dead to me-- or at least "on notice."

The other day, I walked up to a total stranger in the grocery store, and said, "It's a trap!" (http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=11929). We both got a good laugh.

P.S. The scanner still works great.

I joined in December 2004. Some of my geek friends told me about Woot.com. 4 years later, I joined the staff!

@thefenst: You are so lucky to work at the coolest company ever!

vote-for3vote-against

The geeky software guys I used to work with told me about the site, but I only sporadically checked it and didn't get around to joining until 7-19-07. Amazingly enough, the next day they had a great deal on a video card (which I needed one for my first computer I was building), http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=2666. My first shirt was threat level doctorow about a month later, and my first sellout (an awesome one cup coffeemaker I used til I broke it) was the month after that. The shirt has only been worn once as I got a size too small, and someday I'll get around to putting it on teetrade. I didn't buy any wine until 08, but I did get a roomba in my first wootoff, which I used more for tormenting my cats than I did for cleaning my floors. The puppies last summer ate the charger cord, so the roomba (or fred as I have named it) is boxed until i get a replacement. Although now that im in a tile floored house i might get a scooba instead.

vote-for3vote-against

@attilathemom: A friend of mine has three daughters (2 under 4) and no pets. Her 3-year-old loves Roomba. "Look Mama, Roomba's coming over to see me." She even drew a picture of Roomba at school.

vote-for3vote-against

@glindagw: I have considered making a set of ears and a tail for my roomba, which i might do once i get a new power supply cord. I'd also like to trick it out with led lights but im saving that for a day i really want to get my nerd on.

My mom or dad told me about the website since one of them read about it in some review back in Sept 2004. I joined in October when there was a webcam that I bought for my brother (I also remember I bought the last one available). This was back in the day that there were no new woots on the weekend. I had to have stuff shipped to my brothers' address since I lived in HI and couldn't have stuff shipped there. A few days later, there was a sound system for a computer that I bought, and I still use it to this day. Works great.

I rediscovered woot after a few years when my brother showed me shirt.woot since I somehow had a 4 year lapse.

I herd about woot from my dad who herd about it at work.
I joined 2007-7-30 and my first woot(a month later)was a sansa M240 that I use occasionly.

I heard about woot through word of mouth, My childhood friend came over to my house with the "donut panic" shirt on. I made a comment about it and he told me about shirt.woot.com. The rest is history. I work midnights so I get to check the new items every night.

@venom4hire: I am jealous. I never get to stay up that late. It would really be 2am for me I think, I forget. Glad you found woot!
