What is the best deal you've ever got... on anything?
I got 2 redbox movies for free tonight. Good luck topping that!
(Heavy sarcasm implied)
I purchased my house (short sale), and while it was a pain in the arse and took 6 months to close.. 165k 2006-built home with 2900sq. ft for 107k with on closing costs.. don't know if I could ever top that.
Although for small purchases, I did win one of those buy.com "$50 Black Nintendo Wii" bundle coupons forever ago, and then turned around and sold the wii for $200 on Craigslist
Free McDonald's fries last week during Monopoly. But I don't reach very high.
We just bought a 2007 Mustang GT, fully loaded, leather, etc. with only 14k miles on it for less than $20,000. I think we got a fabulous deal and it's so much fun to drive!
@ohcheri: I've been looking at a 2006 Shelby GT 500 w/ Red-Black Leather Interior and Red/Black Exterior with 6k miles on it for 36k. I am so tempted!
@devexityspace: Where do you live? I want to buy a house there!
@ohcheri: Columbus OH! :) we saw the same model house (but with less options) for 155k 10minutes away. Both neighborhoods were nice too.. not sure what they were smoking though lol
@devexityspace: Bummer, too far away for me. Get the GT, you will love it! It gets pretty decent gas mileage (if you're good, haha!) and the back seat folds down so the dog can ride in it very comfortably. Her collapsible crate even fits in the trunk. It's my "practical" mid-life crisis car :-)
@ohcheri: I'm pretty sure the Shelby GT500 gets 15mpg on HWY with a 540hp engine ;) -- and I would not be taking it easy to get better gas mileage.. I would be zipping around people and going 0-60 in 2.6 seconds lol :)
The v6 auto mustang gets fairly good gas mileage though.. but it doesn't have that raw supercharged v8 power that the Shelby does
@devexityspace: My V8 GT (not a Shelby, only 300hp) averages 26 mph on the highway. We test drove the 2012 V6 but I was not impressed, for the money we still got a better deal. The Shelby though...you'll never wipe the smile off your face and how can you put a price on happiness? ;-)
Well. Got my wife for free, which was an awesome deal. But the maintenance costs are killin' me...
Oh wait.. I meant "inkjet printer" and "ink cartridges" respectively. Yeah, that's what I meant.
The Harry Potter first editions I bought for $2.00 each and sold on eBay for $1000 and $1500 apiece were a pretty good deal, I must say. Likewise for the vintage all-weather coat I bought at a thrift shop. I kept it for years, through several moves, without ever wearing it. Then one day I pulled it out to see if it still fit me and I found $1000 pinned in the sleeve.
Yup, those were pretty good deals. But I hope to top them someday.
Brand new Ford Explorer XLT with a tow package for $15,000 after a hail storm.
Unobservant cashier at Babies R'Us sent us home with a free playpen and high chair, back in the day, as well as managing to somehow run all of our diaper coupons twice. Cha-ching.
Goodwill thrift store equivalent of Woot's BoC. $2 purchase contained a box full of nice jewelry, including two retired James Avery pieces and three pairs of 18k earrings with precious stones.
Vintage Fiesta Ware, original Atomic Red, four each dinner and bread plates, coffee cups, saucer, soup/salad bowls, plus serving pieces: $20 at a yard sale.
Folding keyboard for my spiffy Palmpilot (back in the day): $10 due to an ad misprint and a slow store manager who hadn't posted the corrections by the time I hit the cash rack.
@kcjones99: Difference is though that if you tire of the printer it costs you nothing to get rid of it and there's NO emotional attachment.
The other, well....
I'm trying to buy a house now that's 50,000 dollars off. I'll get back to you.
@gideonfrost: is that a mail-in rebate?
@devexityspace: 6 months to close a short sale isn't bad.
Before I bought my current house (2+ years ago), I put an offer in on a short sale. That was in March; I got the formal response in September, which was AFTER I closed already.
Best deal was my first car back in the day. It was a used 1964 Dodge Polaris with a push button transmission. I paid $300 for it, drove it 50,000 miles in three years and sold it for $800.
My car was a steal... I got her 6 months/10k miles past new. Sticker was $32k, I took her home with a 10 year,100k mile warranty and an aftermarket turbo kit for $14k.
My dad got a deal on one of his boats too. Paid $12,500 for an antique Chris Craft, then later found out it is 1 of 3 left fully restored, sat in Antique Boat America's showroom, and was owned by Jack Nicholson. It's worth $40k in a good market. Not too shabby!
Paid 400 dollars for a 1988 Toyota Corolla FX with 90K miles, back in 1997. Drove it throughout high school and beginning of college up to 280K miles with only replacing tires and the alternator and sold it for 500 dollars. The car had a ten gallon gas tank which at the time I could fill up with ten bucks and drive almost 400 miles.
Recently I purchased a lightly used Frontier Gear 300-20-3005 bumper for my Silverado at 200 bucks, and a good condition Abu Garcia 302 for 2 dollars.
