Get a hard-sided 6-can cooler. Rubbermaid and Coleman have some nice ones. I'd avoid the Igloo ones, though; they have "playmate" printed on the side, and, well...

Hubby uses one of these: http://www.igloo-store.com/detail/IGL+PM+GRIPPER+12 and he loves it... He uses the upper compartment for his stuff, MP3 player, cell phone etc. In the summertime I toss in one of these: http://www.thermos.com/products/36-cube-ice-mat.aspx for extra coolness.

He is a highway worker so he doesn't have to suffer the abuses of middle schoolers, but he still needs a pretty rugged (and reliable) lunchbox. ;-)

Cut the shoulder strap off...

Manly. Just need to use it for years and give it some character.

Or one of those old construction worker lunch pails. like this:

How about a Walking Dead lunch box? Can't get anymore manly than that. And besides the kids will think you're cool.

I worked in mining for years. Almost everyone used a Playmate cooler as their pie tin. A pie tin is a combination tool box/lunch box.

Can you get anymore manly than working a mile underground in 120º heat and 100º humidity with huge hydraulic equipment and explosives?

Then again, we never really cared about looking manly, we were more concerned keeping all ten fingers and all ten toes and preventing collapse of the back and ribs.

Then there was back when I was with the 82nd. We didn't have lunchboxes, we ate crappy A-rats out of mermites and MREs out of dark brown plastic bags. Again, we weren't too worried about looking manly.

A beat to crap mermite would look manly, you might want to check them out.

@rprebel: If I didn't already have a Stanley thermos, that first one is very nice..And for the second one, I don't think that one would get along with the microwave too well. Thanks for the suggestions though!

@oo7slice: Won't get along with the microwave? C'mon, live a little! Everyone loves fireworks.

@rprebel: Oh don't worry, I do enjoy fireworks, I just prefer popping a CD into the microwave over a metal lunchbox!

@popham05: Those are definitely quite awesome, however, I'm working with a miniature fridge, so need some flexibility. Thanks for the suggestion!

@jimeezlady: This one does look nice, and I like that I can squish it down if needed. I think we may have a winner.
