Seems to have been about 48. My wife, on the other hand, did so about 35. Claims it was caused by me and our 4 sons. Mine seems to have gotten worse since two sons moved back in with their wives....

Gray? Mine's going straight to white. Still mostly confined to the sideburns after noticing the first ones 4 or so years ago. So mid 40 someting I guess.

16. It's followed a steady progression since then. I'm blaming genetics. That said, it has sped up since I got married...but that could be a coincidence.

@mtm2: And it's only turning gray? Surprised you still have any. :)

@mtm2: As my mother used to say, "They move out. They come back. They bring reinforcements."

@woadwarrior: No, most of my family didn't/doesn't lose their hair. Luckily.

@nastyducky: Your mother is very wise.

Started? Well if you are referring to white hair, I first noticed when I was 12. And by noticed I mean that I had other people point it out to me. Who knows how long they've been hiding there...

Oh well, it doesn't really bother me. I'm a bit surprised at just how many there are though.

The first one arrived when I was 18 taking my first college finals. I taped that SOB to my notebook as a warning to the others. Unfortunately for me, they didn't obey and 5 years later they had regrouped and brought reinforcements. 10 years later, they started turning the tide. Now, they've won the battle and I appreciate that gray hairs are still actual hair, so no complaints about that. Lately they've been marshaling forces off scalp, into my chest and beard. Not too happy about that, but what can I do? My wife, bless her heart, tells me it makes me look distinguished.

I am still not totally gray - some at temples and top of head. Otherwise, my natural color. I tint it to be all one color. I have always thought that pure white hair was gorgeous, and my hairdresser tells me that unless one starts to turn white in their 30's, they will not do so completely. I remember being fascinated with one gray hair when I was in the 4th grade, but as I said above, I am 74 now, and still not even what you would call mixed - some here and there.

I am going to be 29 in February... I've got about 10-15 gray hairs on each side of my head (that I've noticed) and several have started to appear in my beard

I started getting noticable "wings" of gray at my temples before 40 and now at age 48, my beard is very much salt and pepper thoughg most of my hair away from my temples is still dark brown ("with natural reddish highlights" or so I've been told) though there is more gray every year.

My mother's older brother was completely bald when I was a kid (he would have been 35 to 40 at the time, maybe a little older) and my father was mostly bald when he died at 52, with salt and peper hair, though clean shaven. I still have much of my hair though it is definitely getting thin on top.

Started losing my hair in my mid-twenties, but the troopers that stayed behind retained their original dark brown/black color until I was in my mid-40s. Now at 52 my beard is white in the goatee area, salt-pepper on the sides. My hair (what's left of it) is pretty salt and pepper. Based on my parents, it will probably stay about like it is for the duration.

Mine turned loose before it turned gray. I didn't see any gray around the edges (all that's left!) til late 40s.

I'm 24, and I've been getting the occasional gray hair since I was 16.

When I was 19 or 20 I noticed a stray gray in my beard. I believe it was stress related.

Now, at 26, I have a noticeable number of grays on the sides of my head/sideburn areas. Those started a couple years ago.

I'll be 39 in 2 weeks, and have no gray hair. However, my beard started to get some gray in it at 35. Not the whole, just patches of it. It was kind of weird, actually. But, I don't count whiskers as "going gray"... yeahhhh... that's the ticket.

@kmeltzer: You'll probably be like my former boss. At 73, an almost fully gray beard, but, believe it or not, black hair. He doesn't use hair dye products and he's only mildly balding.

I am 28, my wife tells me I have some grays coming in. I still say they are just pale...

Just turned 30 and no gray hair yet, but the hairs do seem to be setting up colonies on my ears and back...

I was 23 the first time a grey was found... my friend was helping me dye my hair, then was oh so helpful to start counting them.

My poor husband though - he went straight up bald by his senior year in HS.

Started finding the first greys at 17. Started losing it at 18.

Now at 25, I've got a grey patch in the beard (At least I think there is one, I can't grow a beard for work), a good dozen or so scattered on each side and a distinct widows peak. Once the patch at the front becomes an island - I'm just going to shave my head.

Started with the 'Jay Leno' stripe at 20. Darn thing spread like crazy over the years. Now I'm considered 'Distinguished'. At least my eyebrows haven't been converted yet.

I'm so young. I guess it could be worse though...
