Could you give us a little information about the browser you are using? Internet Explorer 7 on Windows perhaps?

@Valynn: Are you using some sort of third party popup blocker? What extensions do you have installed?

I'm running Firefox 3.5.3 on Vista and it actually launches deals.woot in a new tab, rather than redirecting the current window.

@russchott: No 3rd party pop-up blocker that I'm aware of. Extensions on this machine are: Java Quick Starter 1.0
Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.1
Tried again - still same issue. Went to steepandcheap.com, clicked toolbar button to 'Woot this deal', that tab navigated itself back to deals.woot homepage, and the pop-up came up with the deal info to edit. All other open tabs stayed the same.

The "Woot this deal" button successfully opens a new tab when being used on steepandcheap.com - both at work and at home using the same browser. One is Vista, the other Server 2k3.

Can you try your button on another vendor (Such as geeks, amazon, or newegg) and tell me if you still experience this behavior?

OK, this is weird. Tried again, acted as before (tab navigated to deals.woot, got pop-up) with steepandcheap, amazon, newegg. Tried with PacificGeeks, and it worked as designed. Went back and tried again, now works as intended with other sites. Added comment, but server was down. Did some other non-computer chores. Tried again - as before, sites didn't work, went to pacificgeek and it worked, then other sites work. I give up. Sorry. Looking forward to deals.woot as part of my daily shopping routine.

@Valynn: thank you for your efforts. Again by design, it should only redirect if the popup fails.

The neat part of this script is that the javascript contained in the button actually loads a javascript that is hosted as part of deals.woot.

This means that we can update the functionality of your button without you having to re-grab it from us. (Keep in mind that this entire thing is in beta - so don't quote on me on that!)

But eventually we intend to have a small form appear in something similar to a modal box in the site you're visiting, rather than the popup vs. redirect behavior you're seeing now. (This is intended to be only temporary functionality) So stay tuned, more to come.

First hour or so on the site. I made a purchase, and it went right to Buy.com. I did not see a "woot this item" button. I bought the item, but now it will not be counted as a woot, as well as the "woot this" button not coming up....I'm using Vista with IE 8
