Should Deals.woot have volunteer moderators?
As those of you who hang around on the "other side" know, woot.com has "volunteer moderators." We have no such thing over here, just overworked staff. Should @jumbowoot form a posse of pew-pew-gun toting hombres to clean up Dodge City?
And if so, what types of people should be invited? What powers should be granted (and denied) them (e.g. edit tags, RIP deals, tase duplicates...)? Should they work from the tattle list, or patrol on their own? Should they have to relinquish the right to appear on the leaderboard?
Enquiring minds want to know.
P.S. I'm sure staff will rectify this, but I left the tags off. I'm not allowed to do anything funny tag-wise until the end of the month. And the "M" word is death if you're trying to get eyeballs on a question, since it hamstrings your ability to hit the popular tab.

If they want it, sure. If not, no.
@heymo Don't worry pal I voted up the question. Meta be damned!
Come to think of it I left a comment too!
I think the ideal situation is the entire community is a volunteer moderator, to everyone's benefit. We're always working to improve our tools, of course, but this is why we encourage better tags, tattles, and encourage better questions.
We also have some cool stuff in the pipe that might help both quality and interaction. But shhh, it's seekrit.
@gatzby: Did you just call the Deals Community a bunch of "tools?"
Actually, I think the AtC does a pretty fair job of keeping an eye on things. We're like the noisy, nosey Neighborhood Watch folks.
(And some of us don't mind the kids riding their bikes on the sidewalk. Keeps the whippersnappers out of the street and off of our lawns!)
@gatzby: We already have you here, we have inkycatz, we have faughty. I say if it ain't broke, why fix it. I may have missed - yep I sure did - Thunderthighs, PrettyWootPrincess (not sure if she moderates), and I saw a new name which I do not remember at the moment the other day. On the way out and no time to look.
@lavikinga: You said it better than I
@gatzby: I see nothing...
I am not sure how well volunteer moderators would work. If there were to be volunteer moderators, they would have to perform the same as the normal staff or you will hear nothing but complaints from those obsessed with the leaderboard (if they didn't get credit for their tattles).
It would be nice to see tattles acted upon more quickly. There are some days that a tattle is acted upon minutes after a tattle and other days where is takes hours and hours. This is where I jump on the duplicate soapbox again, as the longer a duplicate stays up the more likely it is to go popular and the original post will be left to perish deep in the pages of the fresh tab (or maybe deleted).
@klozitshoper: thefenst!
@klozitshoper: Hehe, I'm not saying we shouldn't have a moderation team, but the best case scenario is everyone cares about their community and is willing to strive to make it of a higher quality.
@lavikinga: IT PUTS THE RIGHT TAG ON THE DEAL OR ELSE IT GETS THE HOSE AGAIN.
@klozitshoper: The new obsession with tags, and the effect that has had on tattle response times show that the system could stand improvement. But like you, I wouldn't call it broken either.
Just casting around to see how to improve things. Sounds like there isn't a groundswell of support for the idea. Let's revisit again in another few months?
@gatzby: Please, mister, let me go. My family will give you any deals you want!!
P.S. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to answer!
@gatzby: "We also have some cool stuff IN THE PIPE that might help both quality and interaction."
Be aware that the stuff in the pipe might only seem to be improving quality and interaction to those partaking of said "cool stuff".
@bsmith1: whoa dude, but these are deals.woot double rainbow features. all. the. way. across. the. sky. pass it on bro.
@lavikinga: ha.. damn our relational time stamps; it must have been pretty close to 4:20 central.
that would be cool i think
@promyst: OMG - how could I have missed The Fenst. So sorry Nathan
@gatzby: "We also have some cool stuff in the pipe that might help both quality and interaction."
@caffeine_dude Curls up into a ball slowly rocking himself in fear remembering the day wootbot got released.
@gatzby: great to here from you and the other mods that I won't page.
Sheesh, the only green I get is the Seattle mold growing on everything. And those damn berry bushes with giant thorns.
You mean the whole community of 10 people?
@gatzby: If you are getting mold maybe you need to clean more.
