Any cool unusual toy/gift ideas for a 10 year old boy? (fyi... I can't afford a whale submarine...)
Will be seeing a nephew in a few days and wanted to buy him something cool. But, having no kids I'm totally out of touch. He has tons of video games already. I'm willing to spend around $200. Ideas?
For a lot less, you can get a gift he'll really enjoy:
I bought these for my nephews this last christmas and have secured the top uncle spot for at least the year. Bonus gift is spending time with them, teaching them how to use it, then setting up target practice. So much fun!
How bout a Syma Helicopter??
Or the new Playstation handheld game. It's $249
Seconding the Syma helicopter. Get him a Syma S108G and some replacement parts. They're really durable (trust me), but they're not indestructible. Those two things combined are around $30, so maybe get a small fleet of 'em. An S108, S109, maybe an S111...they're tons o' fun and easy to fly. Just don't take them outside.
Batteries. Lots of AA batteries.
@woothulhu: I would have really liked this as a kid too(or as an adult for that matter); but, I think this falls into the same catagory as buying him a BB Gun or a set of drums, either of which would earn my sibling's wrath!
a Red Rider BB gun with a compass in the stock.
@kamikazeken: what would he want that for?... the kid will just shoot his eye out... :)
you know, in case robbers come storming into the back yard.
Since you can't get a whale submarine, how about a dolphin submarine? It's cheaper and smaller, but smarter.
@lpgstock: Not if you present with terms they only use it when you're around! That's what we do, as long as they're not assholes and know how to follow instructions it's perfect. they'll get even more excited when you come to visit and it gives you something to do together, but hey, if you're not comforatable, you're not comfortable.
Electric scooters are very popular with that age (even though I think the good old-fashioned kick scooters make more sense). I've heard great things about the electric go-carts and I think they're right around the $200 mark on Amazon. You could also get tons of Nerf guns for $200, and I can't think of any 10-year-old boy who doesn't enjoy Nerf wars.
a ten year old girl?
A comic book complete series. Grab an X-men or Spiderman collection, he'll read them over and over and over :)
