Where were you when Thriller was released? (30 years ago)
I watched the world premier on MTV, back when they still played videos. IMO, the greatest MJ song ever, and one of the best videos ever. I mean, it had dancing zombies.
No. I made my first appearance in this world the following day.
Eta: wait... I just read Thriller came out on Dec 9, 1983... So, I was already here for a year.
Thanks for the b-day wishes, I'll be 30up tomorrow. :/
@thumperchick: Happy pre-Birthday!
Probably outside building a fort with friends, playing football/basketball, skateboarding, bike riding or some other mischievous acts. You know. Back when children used to go outside and play. :-)
Didn't start getting into music until I was ~12.
A year and two days later I was born, so I was in my father still.
As they say, I was "not even thought of" yet. I do remember the first time I saw the video, though...family gathering probably 15 years ago and everyone turned on the TV to watch some MJ special.
At a keg party.
I was still a kid then, so I was probably playing with friends but not watching MTV. We didn't have cable when I was that young so I don't even remember the first time I saw the video. I do remember thinking the song was sort of cool (though I was more in to rock).
Not born yet
I was 5 and I was very scared of that video. My 25 year old uncle was the techie of his day and had a reel to reel high-fi system and would make me watch it when my brother and I were there. Something about Michael Jackson strikes fear into small children.
Y'all make me feel very old.
My sister and I watched it on MTV ..... Wubba Wubba Wubba
Married, with one son and the second on the way, and on active duty with the Air Force.
Never been a fan of his but I have to say he did sell a record or two.
I'm more the classic rock type.
Sitting on my couch frantically trying to pry my white-gloved hand free from the thigh zipper on my parachute pants. Finally got it removed by the time Vincent Price said “evil of the thriller”.
In my living room wondering why the M in MTV meant Michael.
I was not yet a thing.
@thumperchick: Nice, I am on Tuesday (12/3). Happy birfday!
I was 6 and I remember being at a friends house and watching the video that felt like it went on FOREVER! Didn't realize at the time how "viral" it would go.
Watching Black Sabbath at The Garden.
(well maybe not to the day. I took a bit of creative liberty)
@coondogg97: Happy Birthday to you too! (monday...)
I know more than 6 people with that birthday - strange, eh?
I was 10, so riding bikes in the neighborhood, hanging out with friends, building forts in the woods behind our house, and just generally staying away from the 'rent.
I am still not likely to watch tv. Never had the time or attention span. I do like some of the commercials, though.
Just starting my second marriage, or close to it. I have effectively disremembered those dates. I'm sure I saw it on MTV though. That was when the V stood for Videos and not Vomit.
i was negative 4 years old and much happier than i am now. i miss those days.
I watched the release of it too and I'm also a proud owner of the album! I miss Michael....he was awesome.
Listening to Metallica when they were still with Megaforce. I had to order it from Kerrang! magazine...
