Does woot have a problem with newegg?
This will probably come up missing if the answer is yes.... But why does every newegg deal that I post here get removed from public view? They are there if I search for them but not if I look for the fresh deals.
No problems with newegg. You're just posting so many newegg deals within minutes of each other so it only shows the latest one. Then, you'll notice little icons on the last deal and a message that says "more deals from newegg posted by magicgoat" (or something like that).
This happens no matter which site you post a deal from.
@cengland0: that sucks...I see it now though. Alot of people will miss alot of good deals with that system imo. Thanks!
I discovered this with @wootbot.
The bot posts a lot of deals throughout the day but you can only see the last one. If you use the keyword search, you can see them all but not if you're scrolling through the list. I don't like that design but I'm sure woot has it's reasons for doing it this way. Probably so one person doesn't monopolize the entire site but I'm not sure.
It's perfectly easy to see them all: just click on the text line that asked if you want to see more deals at X store by user Y.
Well I have noticed that deals pretty much stop getting ranked up when the get put into the small boxes... I think that is a problem, because that means people dont look there and we can never get all of are deals ranked up so we can get ranked up. Make sense?
I almost never post more than one deal from the same site (on the same day) because the minized deals might as well be nonexistant. I've never had one go popular. I pick what I think is the best deal and post it. I figure someone else will come along and post the others....
@magicgoat: this system is balanced against a considerably worse outcome of retailers scripting "deal" suggestions that flood the fresh. Even though it's intended to be an unedited/raw feed of input deals, it was still in need of some infrastructure so as not to be too spammy.
you are correct on the negative downside. one known thing we need to do to help is to default show the highest vote count while on the fresh tab.
for what it's worth, I always click through to view collapsed newegg deals because I know they tend to feature/release multiple deals at a time.
I agree with @snapster. It's really the only way to prevent someone/anyone from posting a TON of items from one vendor. Spam prevention is a necessity, unfortunately, just like the "caution: contents is hot" on coffee cups. It's sad to say, but people tend to take advantage of the system (what ever that system may be).
could also be that you are posting a duplicate that gets flagged and removed so you don't see it when you come back.
There are sites that woot "has a problem" with and won't let you post deals from. Etsy.com is one I ran into recently, which was a shame since it was a darn fine deal...
