If you want a tablet worth buying, without getting a 3G service, I'd recommend looking at a $150-200 tablet. Some cheaper brands that are still worth looking at are "Viewsonic" and "Archos".

The main tip I can give you is to look at online reviews, and get a tablet with at least 512MB of RAM. Not ROM, but RAM. The 256mb tablets are ridiculously slow, freeze up, and force close every app you open.

Guys, you really don't need to downvote him. It seems like a legitimate question.

You could try looking at used options, like on local Craigslist listings (assuming you are US-based). Then you could see it and try it before buying. It can still be perfect even if it's used.

@talormolly @holypenguin: For most things that you'd want a tablet for, it's not going to be pleasant using any of the ultra-low-end things. There are occasionally ones on Woot for under $100, but I wouldn't get something that cheap unless you have a desperate need for any tablet you can get your hands on.

That being said....I'd second the "used" option. You could get lucky!

Sunday September 25, 2011 If you are still looking, new egg has the CRUZ R102 eBook Reader which is really a very low end Android 1.02 OS (I think) for $69 plus shipping. That's $80 off it's sale price. The deal ends this evening at Midnight PST.
