The 100 meter dash. I have a short attention span.

Curling...it's checkers on ice with big pieces.

But I'm extremely excited about the Olympics. Sleep will fall by the wayside.

I love the Olympics. I also have always looked forward to ice skating and gymnastics. I like the skiing as well, and am fascinated with the bi-athlon. Now that I run and do triathlon myself, I enjoy watching the distance runs and triathlon competitions. I will also be forgoing a lot of sleep in the upcoming weeks and fighting with my husband over the tv. He is not such an avid Olympic viewer.

Summer: Beach Volleyball... love to play it, love to watch it.

Winter: Hockey. The speed, strength and grace required to play ice hockey astounds me. It is the most underrated sport out there...

Those two are my favorites, but there sure is a lot I like to watch....

I also have to agree with gymnastics and ice skating. I even did a speech in either 5th or 6th grade about Mary Lou Retton. Diving, swimming, beach volleyball, track, snowboarding, and bobsled/luge/skeleton are also pretty fun to watch.

I think it's usually the participants who make the events exciting to watch. For example, the friendship and history that Misty Mays-Treanor and Kerri Walsh (likewise Phil Dauhasser and Todd Rogers) have just makes you want to root for them.

Add another Ice Skating and Gymnastics fan, lately(last couple of summer Olympics) I've also really got into both the mens and womans beach volleyball(not really interested in the indoor VB).
I also enjoy select swimming and diving events.
What can I say, I like the Olympics and will end up recording many hours/day(well as much as they broadcast on regular antenna TV).

I'm more excited this year than I have been in a long time. I'm not sure the gymnastics team can beat the crazy-awesome that was the 1996 team, but I'm rooting for them. :)

Ice skating. And hockey. I will watch absolutely anything that's on during the Olympics, I really love it, but the skating and hockey I make sure to see.

Summer would have to be Track & Field

Especially the 100m because I have a friend competing in it this year and the 400m & 4x400 because I competed in these in college.

But I also enjoy all other events because I did the decathlon two years while in college as well.

Winter would have to be Hockey one of my favorite sports to play.

@eeekdageek: Friends name? So we can root with you.

vote-for2vote-against

Winter: figure skating
Summer: gymnastics
Why? SHORT PEOPLE RULE!!!

@eeekdageek: I had the opportunity to go to Vancouver to watch a number of friends/former teammates compete and it was the best experience of my life, truly amazing. I hope that you're able to watch your friend compete live, if NBC and the internets cooperate, and that there are some wonderful stories to hear when your friend returns!

I've played ice hockey for almost 30 years, so it is hands down my favorite olymipic sport.

Next in line would be curling. Hard to explain why but I am always mesmerized by it.

For summer I don't really have a favorite, but I think I'm going to try and watch some archery this year.

vote-for2vote-against

normally i could really give a crap about the olymipics, I might tune in this summer (if i can find the right channel/time/etc.) for Boxing, only b/c one of my co-workers Son is competing for her homeland (Trinidad). Kid is a Born & raised MexAmerican, but has dual citizenship since mom is from there. (Carlos Suarez is the kids name BTW. I think he's competing as a flyweight???)

@shavelikeaman: Hockey & Curling?? can i get you a double double w/ your Kraft dinner?
you crazy Canuck.
(if you aren't Canadian, never mind)
Bad earlyre, that's profiling!

vote-for3vote-against

@earlyre: Born and live in the USA. I've never even been to Canada.

Like a lot of curling fans, I got hooked on it during the Salt Lake City Olympics. Its such a kooky game, but I just can't turn it off.

vote-for2vote-against

@earlyre: I had to look "double double" up. Those crazy Canucks have words for everything!
I suspect I might be a closet Canadian. I have an odd fascination with curling, I love hockey, I like Canadian beer and Kraft Dinner, and I have 2 looneys, a toonie, and a kingfisher note ($5).
As mentioned in a previous question, I start talking like a Canadian when I'm drunk. I still don't know how that came to be.

@lumpthar: Dammit, lumpthar, answer the question! Don't start tangents!
Favorite winter sport: Downhill/Giant Slalom skiing (followed by the Biathlon)
Favorite summer sport: Track & Field events (followed by diving)

There's a summer olympics!?!?

For me it's always been winter. Used to be I loved ice-skating. But now that I'm a grown-up it's all about the snowboarding.

vote-for1vote-against

Add me to Team Curling. For summer, water polo always fascinates me and I like beach volleyball. If I want something leaning aesthetic/artistic, I watch diving.
