I've never been anywhere that offers sushi. Not much civilization in my neck of the woods.

Philadelphia Roll - Cream Cheese and Smoked Salmon roll.

Its non-traditional and you would probably never see it in Japan, but d@mn it - its my favorite.

Mmmmmm! Sushi!!

I'm not a fan of eel or octopus, and although I know it's supposed to be healthy I rarely like salmon. But tuna! Ah, tuna! Give me anything with tuna in it and I'm happy. My favorite roll has pepper-seared tuna (seared just enough to pick up a bit of a grilled taste), and includes cucumber and avocado, topped with snow crab salad, toasted panko crumbs, tobiko and eel sauce. A rock and roll comes in as a close second, although these vary from place to place. I prefer them made with shrimp. If I'm going for the basics, just a tuna roll is the best.

We have a long-time friend and neighbor who owns our favorite sushi restaurant. He tries out a lot of new things on us when we go in which makes a trip there extra special (that, and the free plumtinis he sends to our table!)

Dang! Spaghetti already on the stove for dinner so I can't go out for sushi tonight!

There's a sushi place near me that does an albacore platter. Slices of albacore with jalapenos and avocado. I love the little kick that the jalepeno provides. I think maybe sushi for dinner tonight!

I love just eating raw fish, so I almost always get nigiri. Sashimi is delicious too, but a little bit of the sushi rice really adds some complexity!

Hmm I just realized I'll be driving right by a sushi place tonight. I'll have to stop by there since I'm now craving it thanks to you guys! :)

Coming from a Japanese family who owns a Japanese restaurant and having a dad whose a sushi chef, I love just about every type of sushi and sashimi. The only thing I'm not crazy about in tako (octopus) and the only thing I hate is anything with nato (fermented soybeans that taste and smell like vomit mixed with rotting garbage). My favorites that I have to get every time I eat sushi are unagi, hamachi (yellowtail), fresh salmon, and saba (mackerel). Also I've been kinda spoiled with how good the sushi is at my family's restaurant that I've never been extremely happy with sushi from other restaurants, especially Americanized sushi that has to have tons of sauce on it or be deep fried. I prefer more traditional sushi.

Also to everyone saying sushi is basically fish bait, have you actually seen real sushi or sashimi? They're high quality cuts of fish.

NO EXCEPTIONS!

I haven't met a fish I didn't like. Even some quail eggs. I'm not as keen on the cooked rolls, or cream cheesy things. I'll take sashimi even. I think I generally prefer the style where it's a piece of fish on top of the rice, rather in wrapped in nori.

Also, noodles. NOM NOM NOM.

IN MY MOUTH.

Exceptions: No eel or octopus. Yes I've tried, no I don't like.

I love california rolls and Shrimp tempura! =]

There is a place I like to eat called Sharky's here in Memphis. They have a Lava Roll that is EPIC! Its a Philly Roll (Smoked salmon, avocado, cream cheese), deep fried with sweet chili sauce. I am drooling just thinking about it!

vote-for6vote-against

Almost anything that's not spicy, eel, or octopus is good sushi to me.

vote-for6vote-against

I like the spicy kind of sushi, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, really anything that has a bit of a kick to it. And then you got the special kind of rolls, such as a bagel roll, AK47, dragon roll, I mean I can go on and on about the different kinds of sushi I might order to eat.

@dmaz: Wait, I thought you were supposed to eat sushi to drink more sake. Now I'm totally confused.

vote-for14vote-against

I prefer sashimi. For straight sushi, anything "clean" is good (i.e. not too much sauce or other adulterations). I hate the stuff they fry, it seems antithetic to the point of sushi.

Oh! What I meant to say was:
I likes me some fried salt and pepper catfish with hush puppies. None of that there "bait". Ptooey.

I like anything with salmon (raw or smoked), raw tuna, veges, futo-maki (egg). I'll try just about everything. Not a fan of eel. I've caught too many of them. They do not look edible when they are alive.

vote-for8vote-against

I like the 'spider roll' which has tempura soft shell crab and some vegetables ( veggies can vary by the place) , but my favorite is actually yellowfin tuna with some wasabi.

For those that say 'sushi is bait' or 'I won't eat raw fish'... Sushi is actually the rice and how it is prepared. Anything you serve with that style rice ( made with short grain rice, vinegar and some sugar - in a very specific way ) is technically sushi. You can make sushi rolls with any type of filling. For example: Fill a sushi roll with finely diced turkey mixed with just enough gelled cranberry sauce to hold the turkey together & a bit of stuffing and you have a very different type of sushi - but it is still sushi.

@dmaz - then you like sashimi, not sushi :P

vote-for2vote-against

Sushi is nothing but an expensive name for bait.

vote-for5vote-against

Don't take life so seriously guys just a simple opinion question

vote-for4vote-against

I typically like the rolls that have been tempura fried. Nice crispy edges. Maybe it's not technically sushi at that point, but it's yummy.

vote-for6vote-against

@okham: Dang, now I'm crazing Japanese, haha! I can't say no to sake and sushi! The alcohol from the sake helps neutralize the wasabi if it gets overpowering, so you can keep having more wasabi! Yummmm :3

vote-for10vote-against

I like it simple: tuna on rice with a big glob of wasabi. drools

Who's up for some sake?

vote-for5vote-against

@moosezilla: Doesn't surprise me either.

I like just about anything except uni. The texture and taste just isn't there. We have three sushi places within 5 minutes and enjoy them. The most commercial of them (and most expensive) serves mostly cooked items, so we only go there when with other people.

vote-for5vote-against

I like the slabs, not the rolls. Slather it in wasabi with ginger on the side, with no rice. Get those carbs out of my life!

vote-for5vote-against

I usually just order random pieces "chef's choice" and never know what I get. I do know I like unagi and cucumber rolls. I am not a huge fan of sashimi, it's too bland.

vote-for4vote-against

I only like "white girl sushi" as my Korean friend calls it. California roll, and a small amount of unagi. Unagi tastes great but makes my teeth crawl so I don't like having more than a couple of pieces. But I can eat California roll all day long. I also like Philadelphia roll. Mostly I like wasabi and copious amounts of gari (pickled ginger).

interesting quote from a book i just read:
"Why do rich people call it sushi and poor people call it bait?"

i'd rather eat stuff cooked and that lives on land

vote-for15vote-against

why do i see the number 1 answer is gonna be: COOKED
