questionsdo you like woot's new boc setup?

They've done that during previous woots offs. You can check out March's woot off here: http://www.woot.com/Forums/Default.aspx?p=10 and go through it. Either way the servers still have trouble handling all the requests!

vote-for41vote-against

I like the fact that I was able to get one and the other woot.off sites didn't crash.

But, I'd guess a big reason they are splitting it up is to increase sales. Instead of losing their entire BOC hungry audience at once, they keep them active and buying, just waiting for another BOC chance.

BTW, this is the 2nd woot.off where they have used this process.

vote-for8vote-against

I didn't get a BOC with either method so it's all the same to me. At least this time it was because I flat out missed it instead of knowing when it would drop and hitting a server crash.

vote-for12vote-against

I'm two for two with the new method, so I cannot complain.

I do think it gives more people a chance at a bag and it certainly keeps us engaged longer (as @mschauber points out), so I think most people would call it a win-win (parhaps not so much for those who shouldn't be spending so much during woot-offs).

The March BoC was the best one I've ever gotten (my sixth) in terms of value and non-crapiness factor. While this may have been a total fluke, I am looking forward to the April one (but then I always look forward to them).

vote-for3vote-against

I honestly didn't see a single BoC; where were they? I don't see them listed in the woot blog, either. Did they all show up on the regular woot site, or were some on kids, wine, shirt, etc?

vote-for23vote-against

I like it. It keeps us on our toes. Let's face it, previously we'd all be huddled around our computer at 4 Eastern in anticipation of a BoC popping up within the next hour to hour and a half or so. Now, it's kind of random, and gives a jolt of excitement a few times a day.

It's also nice that it seems to go quickly, and the servers stay up. When you're fighting the servers for 30 minutes and don't get a BoC it, frankly, kind of unfun.

vote-for12vote-against

I like that it is unpredictable. For a long time, they put up the one shot in the same 2 hour period every woot off. Now I hope they continue to give us good stuff, and not unsellable scrap from the corner of the warehouse (the last one was better at this than the bug infested washcloth debacle of a few months ago)

This is as of 04/30/2012. They'll get shifted down as new items are posted.

I like the process. If gives you a better chance of being near a computer when one comes up, But they sell out MUCH faster. You really have to have your finger on the trigger or it'll be sold out in no time. I worry that it's even harder for folks with slow computers and/or Internet connections now since the woot servers don't crash.

vote-for11vote-against

I like that more people have a chance at getting one. Every post in the BOC discussion that says "I've been wooting for eleventy thousand years and I finally got a bag of crap" makes me smile and think "welcome to the club, you've been assimilated".

I don't like that I can't leave the computer until all the bags have been sold, before the last day of the woot! off I was back doing normal stuff instead of feeling my butt spreading a little more with each minute, waiting for my next chance at a stupid ass pop-up sprinkler.

vote-for6vote-against

@lparsons they were all on the main woot page, they popped up randomly during the woot-off. they sold a little at a time.

vote-for6vote-against

I got further along in the process before I was denied so I guess it's an improvement.

vote-for7vote-against

I like the randomness of it. I got one last month on a fluke. I got through on my cell phone by just checking in at the exact right moment. I was not as fast this time around even though I was homne most of the time. I was not able to watch faithfully and really have a good go at it. I am OK with that. I think the random times add to the challenge.

vote-for8vote-against

I like that they split it up into multiple batches. I just think that the batches of 500 each are too small, with the servers not crashing, they literally sold out in seconds. Maybe instead of 5 batches of 500 each, do 3 batches of ~800 each, so a few more people have a chance to click thru to finalize their order before it sells out each time.

Also, would love to see the BOC occasionally come up right at 1am eastern, or maybe on one of the sister sites, like home.woot... just to keep it even more interesting!

vote-for9vote-against

I like it as well. Keeps everyone involved with the wootoff throughout its entirety - not just between 3 and 6 of the second or third day. Its nice to get the BOC rush 5 times instead of one!

vote-for7vote-against

I love the new BOC method, I love having weird/useless but fun stuff during the woot-off, I love the staff becoming more involved with the community again. It's like the best of the old Woot mixed in with some Amazon speedy shipping.

Honestly, except for the shock of receiving an Amazon box when I order from Woot occasionally, I see no down side!

vote-for7vote-against

I like the new format a lot. 2 for 2 so far with the multiple BOC opportunities! It is particularly good for those of us with daytime gigs, since there were two evening chances to score in the last Wootoff. Please keep doing it this way for a while, ColonelCrap!

I agree with the comment on the BOC 'rush' too. My wife and I both feel that the thrill of seeing the crumpled brown bag pop up on the screen, along with the ensuing shouting and pandemonium (in our house anyway) is at least half the fun!

vote-for5vote-against

The one I liked the most was the 'Buy some woot lights or a monkey and then we pick a number' one. The true fans won't mind taking a chance, while the greedy botters can't load up.

vote-for2vote-against

Does this provide the opportunity for those that already got one BOC in the woot-off to get a second or third later on in the same session? If so I'd be on the fence about it but might let it slide as I know how tough it is to get in on a BOC just once, let alone more than once in a single woot-off. If they are limiting to one BOC purchase (which may include up to 3 craps, don't get the number of purchases confused with quantity in the purchase) per user in a woot-off session then I'm all for it as it certainly helps to spread the crap around.

vote-for1vote-against

Got two BOC before the change. Wasn't even close with the last two. I used one alert mechanism on my personal cell, a different one on my work cell and was using a desktop notifier this past wootoff. Each one was sold out before I got a chance to click buy. Guess I should be happy I got my two BOCs before, because it sure as hell looks like there is no way I'll be getting a third.

vote-for3vote-against

much better, some people cant sit there all day and would like a chance to get a BOC

vote-for4vote-against

I like the increase opportunity for different time zones and such. The problem now is speed. If your network isn't super fast on the loads and such its much harder to get in on the smaller number available. At work our Internet access sucks, so it pretty much eliminates me. It just creates a different way people won't be able to get it. Not necessarily better or worse, just different.

vote-for4vote-against

@pow: Personally, I never made it all the way through the process, but there were several people on the forums stating that they had made it through more than once but were only able to buy once per woot-off.

vote-for5vote-against

I like it. I think it adds a little variety, and whether it was intentional or not, a couple of times the BOC showed up immediately as "sold out!", which apparently defeated some of the bots and gave non-bot-users more of a chance, at least based on the comments in the thread.

vote-for5vote-against

@pow: No. They have X amount that they sell during the woot! off and split that lot into different opportunities to purchase one. Once you score one, you won't be able to buy another (unless you've set up an additional Woot account with a different method of payment).

vote-for4vote-against

Love. The children are malnourished and the house is a mess, but I scored my second boc so that makes it all worth it. Amirite?

vote-for5vote-against

Personally, I love it! This past Woot! off I was finally able to score my first Bandolier of Carrots!

vote-for4vote-against

The multichance trickle method is not nearly as appealing to me as the fact that I am see some randomness to when the sale of the crap is. Random = unexpected simple fun.

vote-for4vote-against

I like it. It still gives the randomness of not knowing when the BOC will appear. I think it gives more people the opportunity to achieve a BOC while still keeping us all glued to your woot-off!

vote-for2vote-against

I liked it. I got one this time around; #5, second in the Amazon era. Let's hope it won't be a "everyone gets pretty much the same crap crap" this time around. Let's see some cool surprises... daddy needs a refurb desktop for a development server...

@jha1223:

Hey... Just curious: what notifier(s) are you using?

I use mywoot.net on my PCs and WootWatcher (paid, in push mode) on my Android devices. Both got me notifications before the BoC were sold out, though the second round STARTED as sold out, then went to available, then again became sold out (for real). (I got mine in the second round.)

I also got through in the last round but was told I'd already gotten one (I knew I wouldn't get another, but was curious what it would say.) All of the other rounds happened when I was in the bathroom.

vote-for1vote-against

I like it in theory, but sadly I still didn't get one, although I came close once.

vote-for3vote-against

Either method I am fine with.. I've gotten multiple BoC's over the years and got one on the 2nd to last woot-off using the new method (I wasn't at my computer for this woot-off so I didn't get one)

the bags are still not as "crappy" as they used to be sadly.. but one does not complain if his/her crap is less crappy than others..

Just reflecting on the times and how much the bag of crap has changed in the past 4 years

vote-for2vote-against

I'm definitely a fan of the new setup. For one, it's nice to have it random to keep me glued to the computer. The sheer anticipation of when the next moment of glory happens is exhilarating. Also, and my favorite thing about it, is that it's nice to not have to go into heart failure as I constantly F5 to try and get my order to go through, only to have the pages crash over and over again. There were several times in the past that I clicked to buy the moment it went live, but I never got the BOC because the page always kept giving me errors and crashing.

Of course, I'm definitely biased since I scored a BOC in both this last round, as well as the previous wootoff. Too bad I wasn't so lucky playing the lottery.

vote-for1vote-against

@baqui63: Wooters.us on the desktop, trackwoot on my iPhone and wootcheck on my android.

I'm more than happy that they are spreading out the times so more people can have access. Just being a little greedy myself :)

Glad to hear you got one though! Opening packages is like Christmas for me and I love the BOC packages.

vote-for2vote-against

I like the new way.. I think it makes it more fun instead of people just leaving the site after the 1 posting of Bowels of Cinnamon, people will stay on longer. Plus like others have said, it gives you more opportunities to get one, especially if you miss it the first time...

I also like that they upgraded their servers, I have not had one crash on me at all during the last two woot offs!

vote-for1vote-against

I've never gotten one and don't really expect to -- I don't even know if I want one, but that doesn't stop me from trying -- but I love that the servers don't crash anymore.

vote-for2vote-against

Until the last WOOT!-OFF the only BOC I was able to score was the B-day special and the Santa's bag because they started those offerings at midnight. I work evenings so the predictable 3-4 pm central offering was basically out of reach because I was driving to work.

While we are talking about happy events; THANK YOU for having the screaming monkey return as the last item.

BTW: I lost interest in WOOT! and the BOC after getting two (me and the wife) identical Santa's Bags with the bugs. We ended up throwing most of it away because of those bugs. My protests about the bugs were pretty much ignored while others got replacements. It was the multiple offerings in the March WOOT!-OFF that brought me back.

vote-for2vote-against

I like the unpredictableness of it. I think it gives a better chance to all and the biggest woot fans are actually going to have better chances as they are on all of the time.

vote-for1vote-against

In short, yep. I love that they are spacing it out and have to give the server team props as well since I've not noticed the usual crash every time a bag does come up.

vote-for1vote-against

I liked it....Now if I could just get back some of that sleep I missed out on. ;-)

vote-for1vote-against

I'm a big fan of that new BOC random technique. At least it helps me be less sad when I missed it at the first try :)

vote-for1vote-against

Well, it is their website and they can do what the want, but the change made ignoring Woot-offs a really easy choice. I work, do stuff with family, and have friends. I cannot sit in front of a computer for ~3 days staring at the screen. The rest of the Woot-off tends to either be junk items, or prices I can get elsewhere. Now I just check deals.woot and the rest of the site doesn't even exist for me anymore.

And I only bother with Deals so I can see what the community is talking about. So no, I don't like it, but I do like not having a website that I will check compulsively every day. :) So more chances at bags for you guys.

vote-for1vote-against

Still haven't scored one, but I actually made it the page where you enter your info before it sold out on one of them this time around. Never gotten that far before.
