Future dated join date, or are time machines real?

i was checking out a new member's join date for doctorate research or something, and i noticed the join date listed was for tomorrow July 27th 2011. i'm on the east coast and it's not midnight yet so for me the current date is July 26th.
i took a screenshot if you think i'm a constant liar or something

what does it mean? what would you think if you saw this, when you happened to look for your doctoral research or other reasons?

I think the site uses UTC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time

@w00tgurl: check out the time stamps on the comments and you will notice the tiny little z at the end. This is for Zulu time which is 5 - 6 hours ahead of woot time depending on the time of year (DST playing havoc once again).

I've noticed this too. It's been going on at least a week. I wonder if it might be based on where the member lives (other side of the international date line)?

Oh, and I don't think you're a "constant liar"... Maybe an intermittent one, but not a constant one. :)

Most dates / times on Woot are stored as UTC.

@ohcheri: d'oh yes! like what @drchops mentioned in his comment with the future join dates. i also think it must be a timezone thing, but shouldn't it show the local woot server timezones or at least Texas time, versus China timezones?

@msklzannie: when you've noticed it, is it something reasonable like 1 day in the future? that could be blamed on timezones. or was it several days/weeks?

well thanks for the reality checks everyone! i'm glad to see it's just the old Zulu timezone showing its power over us :) or a defective flux capacitor, depending on how much you "want to believe". hehe

Geez, why so negative?

You have to vote up more before you can vote down.

Don't get us wrong. Negativity has its place. And downvotes are just as essential as upvotes when it comes to making Deals.Woot a useful place to find deals.

But when your votes lean so heavily toward the dark side, we have to wonder. Go vote up a few things. Accentuate the positive for a little while. It'll do you some good, and it'll do the site some good, too. Then you can get back to dealing out the smackdowns, OK?
