mm I got a $38 credit for the shipping and handling charges a couple days ago. Which was nice. No hundred bucks, though.

Did you actually get Touchpads or just try and the servers fell on their butts?

vote-for8vote-against

@meh3884: I tried for 20 minutes while it just kept bombing and didn't get one. It wasn't nearly as fun as trying for a BOC but the $100 was a crazy surprise.

vote-for8vote-against

Well that's cool. Took me 45 mins and the co.uk site to get mine. I read that HP never warned eBay that the sale was coming, so eBay had no way of preparing. Nifty of them to do this, though. I was surprised by the shipping refund, though when you think about it, HP's feedback score tanked almost 10% from people complaining about the shipping charges.

I bet HP and eBay collabed over this one.

vote-for12vote-against

I didn't get anything... except HP/eBay cancelling my order and having PayPal still take my money ransom for over a week.

@meh3884: "I read that HP never warned eBay that the sale was coming..."
So, everybody on the Internet knew about this sale and eBay didn't???

vote-for4vote-against

@jsoko: If you don't get an email from them in the next couple days, pick something out on eBay for $50 and PM me your address and I'll hook you up.

vote-for5vote-against

@joshaw: If you do that sir, you deserve 1,000,000 internets

vote-for3vote-against

Ya i tried for half an hour, when i finally got a chance to purchase it said another bidder is in process of buying. Grrrrr!

vote-for3vote-against

@joshaw: Wait...you got a $100 just because you weren't able to get a Touchpad during the sale..?

Would you mind posting the attached message? Just kinda curious why they'd give everyone who wasn't able to get a TP $100 bucks lol

(Or maybe I misunderstood? Was it cancelled?)

vote-for2vote-against

Also, if you don't have a use for that and wanna sell it ridiculously cheap...I'm your man :)

[ed] I should probably read all the comments before I start talking heh. That's pretty damn generous.

Also @jsoko, good luck :D...if you don't get hooked up, contact 'em and see what's up. It'd be worth pursuing...at least with one or two e-mails.

@drchops: Sure, here's what it says (other than I've removed my email from the message):

Gift Certificate Issue Date: Dec 23, 2011

To:
From: eBay
To show our appreciation, here's a $100 eBay Gift Certificate with our apologies for any inconvenience you experienced while ordering a TouchPad from the HP eBay store. Happy Holidays from eBay and HP.

Amount: $100.00 USD
Redemption Code: Please log into your PayPal account to see your gift certificate

vote-for2vote-against

I am thinking that is a scam...

Can you verify the email address as ebay (and not the pretty name).

"Please log into your PayPal account to see your gift certificate"

I agree, that is the part that sounds very suspicious...

vote-for2vote-against

@straightrazor: The sender was ebay@reply1.ebay.com. And, I just logged into my Paypal account (not from the email link, of course) and there is definitely a redemption code for $100 there. I also noticed that my account had a transfer of $149 from my bank to pay for the Touchpad (so my Paypal account now has a positive balance). I guess they really messed my order up by allowing the payment to go through without having any actual products to sell. Maybe that's why they gave me the $100?

vote-for2vote-against

I got a coupon for 10% off anything up to $10, which while nice, is no $100 credit. And I spent about an hour trying and failing to get a Touchpad that day.

vote-for2vote-against

It sounds like the special gift went to the right person. Congrats!

@joshaw: "I guess they really messed my order up by allowing the payment to go through without having any actual products to sell. Maybe that's why they gave me the $100?"

That sounds possible.

vote-for2vote-against

I got a 10% coupon off any one purchase... so while i guess it could be equal to more than 100.00 - i don't have any big purchases planned, so max it might be 20 lol.

vote-for2vote-against

Odd, all these variations. I got the $38.00 credit, which basically reduced it to free shipping for 2 32GB touchpads. Knew up front I was paying it, so the refund on shipping was a very pleasant, very welcome, surprise.

vote-for3vote-against

@acraigl: Sounds like they FUBAR'd his order though. Took money out of his account for something they didn't actually have heh..

It's probably intended to fill the void for the majority of the money taken out of his account or something like that...I'm sure the money was out of his account for a couple of days at least.

Still cool. Woot! caliber cool.

@stark: Sounds like you need to buy your next house and/or car on eBay :)

vote-for1vote-against

@drchops: I don't even see how to email eBay.

Does anyone know?

vote-for1vote-against

@jsoko: Yarg. It's an or-da-eel (ordeal heh :D).

I recently got ripped off on eBay and JUST WANTED TO TALK TO SOMEBODY. It's a circular exercise in stupidity..

They send you to the help section which sends you somewhere else, which sends you back to the help and so on.. Basically, your choices are

A.) Find an eBay e-mail from Google
or B.) Call.

Calling is...ehh, well it's... it's Indian people. They just made it harder on me. So what I would recommend is asking for a supervisor that speaks English as a first language (ie an American.) They will be able to help you.

Also, it may be worth asking our main man @joshaw what e-mail addresses were in the eMail he got. Might be helpful?

vote-for1vote-against

@drchops: If you get ripped off, why not just open a dispute in the resolution center? I had to do that twice and it was a good experience in both cases. It can take some time, but if you're in the right, it should all work out to your satisfaction.

vote-for1vote-against

@drchops: The only email address is the one I listed above. And @jsoko, I'm serious about picking something out on eBay.

vote-for1vote-against

@acraigl: Haha...I tried. Because the guy I sent the money to hadn't marked it as "received" they wouldn't let me. I tried to explain that to the lady on the phone but she wasn't havin' it.

I just threatened 'em repeatedly over the course of a day and a half. He never replied, but I did get a $10 refund in my PayPal account.

vote-for1vote-against

@joshaw: I appreciate the offer and I will look on eBay for something... however, I feel bad using it.

vote-for1vote-against

@jsoko: No need to feel bad, just assume they made a mistake and were supposed to send us each $50. :)

vote-for1vote-against

Alright, @jsoko, do you have a paypal account? If so, send me your email and I'll just ship $50 to you to be used at your leisure.

vote-for1vote-against

@jsoko: Last chance or else I'm giving your money to The Food Bank of the Rockies. :)

vote-for1vote-against

@joshaw: Sorry, and thanks again for the offer. Just give the money to them, they need it more than I do! But thanks again, you're a real stand up wooter! It's people like you, that make deals.woot a great community!
