When I got mine, we went to a local jeweler so that I could see and feel the rings before we bought. But I'm picky about rings. And I never found anything I like at one of the chain stores. They aren't known for their diversity. If you want a really special ring, you might want to check into getting a custom one made.

Rings are a tougher one to do since you have to custom pick the 3 stones. one alternative is a birthstone necklace. Pick any chain, or a jewelry "safety pin" and you pick the birthstone charms. The one I have either looks like a little boy or a girl with their body as the birthstone. Using a Kohl's 30% off coupon + while on sale and you can get a decent deal.

or birthstone bezels, also for a necklace

You can find some very unique and beautiful mothers rings at MothersFamilyRings.com. They actually have 1 up to 12 birthstone mothers rings. They use all genuine gemstones and are very high quality, unlike some of the big name stores.
