Does anybody use their Kindle while they are in the bath?
I like to take baths (shut it) to relax and when I do I read. My wife just bought me a Kindle for Christmas and it's awesome but I'm afraid of taking it in the bath.
I'm not really afraid of dropping it... I have a good idea of what will happen then. I'm more afraid of condensation from steam. Will that affect it? I don't take like super super hot baths but there's always a little steam.
Any first hand experience?

@bonoman: I am so notifying the league here :) @miquinn, @capguncowboy, @drunkcajun, any recommendations for our deals.woot FFL commissioner?
I keep an older Kindle in the bathroom next to the throne. The room gets steamy from showers (no baths) and I have never had a problem with it. I would be concerned, however, about pressing buttons with wet hands. You might consider sealing your Kindle in a zip-lock bag.
Use mine in the bath tub all the time. I even use it in the hot tub. Never had an issue with it. I keep a finger tip towel near by just in case.....
@mfladd: Damnit! I KNEW a leaguer would be the first to respond!
@nortonsark @whatsmypassword thanks for the tips!
@whatsmypassword: I'm with whatsmypassword (and I love that name!). I've had a Kindle for a couple of years and have had no problems reading it in a steamy bath. I do hold on carefully, but haven't dropped it yet. I also bought a nice bamboo bathtub tray (online, of course) with the intention of using it to hold up my Kindle or book. So far it's just sitting in a pile while we remodel, but if you're worried, you might try getting something like that.
@bonoman: I knew I should have gone for the Bath and Bodywork's bath salts for your stocking.
This is too fun. Earnestly, I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday!
@bonoman: Uhhh, so um... is this a bubble bath?
@mfladd: what am I doing? lol
@miquinn: go ahead say it, and I will tell you why.
the plastic bag sounds like the best idea. Sounds like a pretty big risk though I doubt any insurance would cover water damage.
unless you got it at walmart and returned for a new one.
what league?
@mx023: "what league?"
there were some of us, including the OP that were in a deals.woot fantasy football league this year.
Oh dear... My first concern was the bath thing. I was hoping it was a satire question, but I see you might have bigger things to worry about than using your Kindle while you "soak"
:)
You could put it in a dry bag that is used for kayaking and the likes. There are plenty that are completely clear and I would certainly trust it more then a ziplock. Here is an example that reviews even state they use it for their kindles. http://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Tek-Multi-Purpose-9-Inch-12-Inch/dp/B000OF72WK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1325650847&sr=8-10 I have never used this product so please do not take this as a recommendation to buy this specific product, just an example of a vinyl pouch I had in mind. Please research any similar item before you purchase as I have not personally used any currently for sale.
I personally would be to nervous to use it in the bath. Anything more then a radio sitting on the bathroom floor I view as pushing the limits.
My daughter wants to do this as well, but since she has already dropped her backpack containing her Kindle and cracked her screen (ARGH!), we said no. I'm sure it would get wet somehow, even with great care. Maybe I can check out raider's pouch idea, though... thanks.
There are a lot of cases listed on Amazon if someone is really worried about the accidental splash or two...
I use my Nook in the tub, but I put it in a ziplock bag just to be safe. Never had a problem
@mfladd: I say make @capguncowboy do it. After making all of us look so foolish, he deserves the the restless nights that accompany that job. With the possibility of two leagues next year(hopefully), can you imagine how many emails he'll have to keep up with?
My wife takes baths often and uses her Kindle. If she's feeling sleepy, she puts it into a freezer zip lock baggie.
@whatsmypassword: I bought a waterproof bag for the kindle on amazon (shocker) and use it all the time in my hottub. It is very handy and I don't have to worry about a paper book getting wet and warping.
