On the topic of charity, has anyone STARTED one? Any advice?

A few friends and I are putting together a charity to raise awareness & funds for men's health issues (testicular, colorectal, & prostate cancer). But, I've never done anything like this before... any help would be appreciated.

It's complicated.

I started one and thought I would use Legal Zoom and be done with it.

But so many issues came up. How to take in money, How to take it out. What I need to file, and what not.

You need a lawyer. And/or an accountant. Get a lawyer who has experience with this kind of thing and you'll save yourself a lot of headache!!

I found a lawyer who liked my organization and did everything I needed for free! Maybe you can find the same!!

Cool. I knew about legal zoom, but having a lawyer to guide you isn't a bad deal. I guess they write off their time as a donation. Thanks for the advixe

You have to vote up more before you can vote down.

Don't get us wrong. Negativity has its place. And downvotes are just as essential as upvotes when it comes to making Deals.Woot a useful place to find deals.

But when your votes lean so heavily toward the dark side, we have to wonder. Go vote up a few things. Accentuate the positive for a little while. It'll do you some good, and it'll do the site some good, too. Then you can get back to dealing out the smackdowns, OK?
