I've been known to overcome some obstacles from time to time, but have never made it more than a personal effort. A group challenge does sound fun though.

Driving around here is always like that.

@mtm2: I don't want to assume... obviously you are joking but I want it to be clear that this refer to an activity without vehicles.

I've done plenty of that obstacle stuff you refer to in the past, but it's just too much like tilting at windmills. I gave up, for the most part. I am also not creative.

It's a pity, but there it is.

Everything changes. Everything.

I think I'll write a book about that. It sounds like a pretty good title, you know?

@shrdlu: Rumor has it that there will be (soon) forums at all kinds of mediocre websites (and you don't have to give your Amazon or Google log-in anymore), so that might be worth looking into

I think I would like to do a zombie run.

I've done a few: Spartan Race most recently. I did it the first time they were in Miami, and they weren't the most organized. In addition, my heat started very late (about 11:00) in mid April. What this translates to is that it was freaking hot as hell toward the end of the race which (in the way the laid the course out) the last half or so was completely in the sun. It was a pretty miserable last 3 miles or so.

I was sort of thinking about doing the Tough Mudder, but it seems that they are really an extension of CrossFit, and I don't do that.

@wilfbrim: I looked into a few different courses and happened on the one in Cincinnati. It is a permanent course and was extremely well done and well organized. There were a few people there who do this kind of thing a lot and wrote reviews afterward. Some of their comments were about how other courses aren't always good because they have to travel and some of the locations aren't ideal.

Ran a handful of Tough Mudders and a Warrior Dash, now more interested in GORUCK/etc. events.

@wilfbrim: I haven't run a 2013 TM, but the ones I have run were never really crossfitty. I'm sure TM has some sort of partnership with CF now, since they are whores (did you see their Wheaties box?), but the core event has not, to my knowledge, changed. I'd actually recommend staying away from TMs and keeping to the smaller series - TMs are crowded and full of the wrong kind of people.

goruck, spartans, and tough mudders for me :) Missed out on the zombie run for your life race this year, though. Eagerly awaiting next year's.

I've done 1 and it was fun, but I really prefer just running against the clock. I don't know what it is...being timed adds to the excitement for me. I'm always trying to best my personal record on 5 and 10 k runs.

@dcalotta: as in goruck tough? or are you referring to something else?

vote-for1vote-against

@goatcrapp: Yeah - are you? Rare to find another one in the wild :)

@dcalotta: I haven't done a Heavy yet, and haven't even considered the Colorado ascent. I did the Challenge without bricks :( . I was part of a slower than the day's average 13.x hour team finish but ran support instead of with bricks... tore a meniscus early on (didn't know it, just knew i was in searing pain lol), and our cadre decided it would be best to split my bricks during the run portions and have me carry the team's protein/energy bars.. Nowhere near the weight i should have been at. Some alumni said doing it on a bum knee evens it out, but i was frustrated at not being able to provide maximum effort, and being the clear anchor (not a good type of anchor) on the team's progress. I plan on doing it again, and working towards a Heavy :). When i'm uninjured, i post respectable times in my other races, i swear lol.
