Do you think down-voting should require a comment?
It looks like some people are just going down the line down-voting certain sellers, products, etc. Down-voting is opening a new can of worms, example in the past many buyers wouldn't interact with products they have no interest in, now they will down-vote it. Another example if someone sees something as a moral issue or political statement, before they would leave it alone, now they down-vote.
I was thinking maybe if woot required you to leave a comment on a down-vote that at least other voters would know why someone was voting a deal down. This way it would be harder or clearer when voters targer certain products, sellers, issues.

No.
Not unless up-voting requires a comment.
I think many people (possibly including me) are downvoting a lot because it's a new feature and they're playing around with it.
No, I don't think so. Then we would just have a bunch of useless comments on top of the down votes.
If someone is posting a controversial item that is getting downvoted to oblivion, chances are it's not a deal and they were just trying to troll anyway. The problem is the legitimate ones, which is the main reason down voting doesn't quite work in the first place.
@acdawg: I agree with you!
@shadowhunter312: Yes you are right, but it is really hard to deal with the people that are just going to vote down as fun. Example we posted a POD CD deal for only $1 and it got as many down votes as up. I was wondering if they were voting it down because it is Christian Rock, or some other reason. Because obviously it is not a bad deal for a Brand New CD at $1.
I don't think it should REQUIRE a comment, but I think it's nice to mention why you downvoted (especially if it's an issue about the price - ie found it cheaper, not really a deal, etc).
But somebody just ran through my deals and down voted everything on my first page all at the same time so I'm trying to figure out if I pissed somebody off or it's just a coincidence or what. A comment would've helped me figure that out.
I think commenting about it (or have a drop down multiple choice selection as to why you down voted something) will help temper the amount of down votes being used carelessly while also providing constructive criticism.
@dollardealsclub: I don't know know what their reason was, but I did a quick search and found a bunch of places cheaper after shipping. If they down vote just what they don't like they are going to run out pretty quick anyway.
edit: @bonoman: Really they should just disable voting on deals after a certain amount of time. Not many people are going to be legitimately voting on my month old deal.
@bonoman: Agreed.
@dollardealsclub: cause it's POD
I dunno, i think we're gonna get alot of down votes, not because the deal is bad, but because people don't like the actual item, or they found one a month ago for $3 less. movies are a great example. if someone posted "pippy long stockings" for a dollar, i would down vote it, not because a dollar for a DVD is a bad deal, but because who the hell wants to watch that dumb tramp run around showing off her slutty stockings to the world? not this cat.
I subscribed to the "it's polite to leave a comment to explain why you downvoted" at first. Then this happened:
Now, I don't blame lll0228 for defending his deal, and I think the conversation we had was productive in the end for both of us. But I have no intention of providing explanations in most future cases, if defending a downvote often provides such a hassle.
That being said, an explanation could be productive especially if the person is a new member of the community.
@bonoman: Yep, same problem we had. Someone went down the line down-voting even old deals, they obviously would not have normally cared about.
I am a TRUE believer in the American way, so I think we should at least try to be fair. We are only supposed to be voting on the Deal, not the person, opinion, etc., etc. Is it a deal or not.
cant we all just shut up and use it?
It's pretty obvious that most downvotes have nothing to do with the actual deal. For example, one of my items has -50 votes because there are a lot of folks offended by the idea that grownups like to dress in arousing clothes. (Only in America!)
The item is on sale for $9.99 with free shipping which makes it a great deal, clearly the downvoters haven't bothered to research this.
I don't want to have comments/explanations for a down-vote. I want NO DOWN VOTES at all. I've seen heavily down-voted items today that seem to have nothing wrong with them at all: familiar seller, good price, reasonable shipping costs. The only imaginable reason for a down vote is that someone didn't like the product itself.
I thought from the earliest days of discussion that this would be a miserable feature that would change the tenor of the site, and I see no reason to change that viewpoint. Down voting sucks.
@magic cave: To be honest, the more I view and think about it the worst I feel about it. Down Voting is HORRIBLE!!!
@shadowhunter312: Actually when we corrected the fact that the POD CD is ONLY $1 plus ONLY $1.95 Shipping, which adds up to Less than the Shipping Price on most major sites, including eBay Auctions, we are the lowest. So based on what we have seen with other Deals it really is just people that are having what they consider fun, and the Good people are not offsetting it.
This down-voting is just getting ridiculous!
@magic cave: Agreed, at first it was ok, but now its getting annoying. of course maybe i'm just saying that because my previous post got down-voted so much. I guess people really do want to see Pippy Long-Stockings tramping it up in her whirlwind adventures...
It would be nice if people were able to differentiate between a bad deal and a product they dislike. I recently posted three DVD deals, two old series I loved and purchased, and one old series I did not like but thought others on the list probably did. Of course the ones I loved stayed in oblivion with only two votes, while the one I didn't like got voted to popularity quite quickly and ended up with 30 votes. I thought the purpose of this site was to help one another find good deals, not to promote only our own personal tastes and interests. Pippy Longstockings does nothing for me, but I'm not going to piss on a Pippy DVD deal. It's ironic how many people who are proud of having interests and tastes outside the mainstream take great glee in stomping on anything that doesn't fit into those interests and tastes. They are proud of being different yet try to bully everyone into being like them, which suggests they don't want to be different at all.
