Challenge: Outdoor lighting motion sensing
I am looking for a great deal on motion sensor exterior lights for my house. I don't want to run power to them and have no plugs on the outside of my house

How about this solar powered beauty? http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/30d97511-8b51-4c3d-a3af-e650a0b6d476/solar-security-light-30-watt-halogen-solar-motion-detector-light-for-98-00
Or any of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L2QLZ8

Has anyone ever used the solar panel ones before ? Do they really work? Given the likley placement I hate to be climbing up a ladder every month to replace batteries
while we're kinda on the topic, does anyone have a good conversion of halogen bulb wattage to comparable incandescent bulb wattage? Googling let me down, all I found was a bunch of crud that said halogens were in essence a type of incandescent bulb.
I ask to know how we should perceive a 30-watt halogen bulb, exactly. A 30-watt standard incandescent would be laughable indoors, let alone as a security light, so there must be some sort of conversion table similar to the ones for CFLs. Right? Right???
fingers crossed
@djbowman: the reviews I've read of solar powered security lights have run the gambit of praise to hatred. I'd think you'd eventually want something with a powered backup if security is your main goal.
@djbowman: my parents had the solar ones similar to what you want and they liked them. I have solar ones in my front yard for pathway lighting, they are three years old and I haven't replaced the batteries yet. A couple died, but that is because the lawn guy ran over them not because of battery failure. I am still trying to figure out how to install a solar light on my front porch, problem is I have a large front porch.
