having worked the same retail for 13+ years, yes there are cycles. january is still the time for getting anything fabric in your house (feb new designs are available). early august for office supplies including electronics. two weeks before the season starts is the time for new footware (they sell out by two weeks into it). but the best option is checking out local resell shops.

@moosezilla: by local resells do you mean thrift and consignment? I live in a small community and can't say we have many of those. I check out eBay once in awhile.

@sand4me: in my town we have 14 local resell shops not including consignments(yuck! high prices). driving the 36 miles to the next town we get 9 more but most of those are the chain resellers (goodwill and salvation army) higher prices, but normally better stuff. goodwill tends to get the target "last season" leftovers they couldn't clearance out. and salvation army tends to get the kohl's and similar "last season" stuff.
i tend to like the church/hospital resell shops better where it's some little old lady that is bored being at home volunteering to price and stock the floor from stuff that has been donated by someone trying to clean out the homes of loved ones that have left or people that moved and left their apt full of stuff.

@yrguide: took me awhile to find it - your link goes to new car research. Strange. But, thanks for the info.

@moosezilla: Well, I am pretty certain we don't have any of those - our local goodwill store is a donations store. We have Hotline which is donations. The nearest Big Lots is about 80 miles away. There is a Tuesday Morning store that just opened but I haven't been to it yet. Not even a real flea market in sight. I am deprived....

have you tried online to see if there are resell around? i didn't know several until i found
http://www.thethriftshopper.com/
they have a place to type in your zipcode and it will bring up most of the nonprofits in the area. sadly only nonprofits.

@drewskidooo: thanks! this was great and exactly what I was looking for. It has been some time since I looked at Lifehacker.

@moosezilla: Thanks - I tried it and saw just the 5 I expected but all of them are donations, not resellers. Great website though - I am going to send it to my aunt.
