Do your kids get "extra" toys because you see something cool on kids.woot?
Every so often I see something on kids.woot that I, er, I mean "my kids" just have to have.
Then I'm faced with the dilemma - do I hold it until Christmas/birthday, or just give them it? Sometimes I do hold it, but sometimes I just surprise them with something out of the blue.
Anyone else?
Toys from kids.woot, no. Shirts from shirt.woot, yes. The kid could not wash t-shirts for a month, and still have a spare or two.
I only have a grandkids and Godchildren to buy for, so i get to spoil them all I want :) with that said, I still try to space things out and wait for birthday/holiday, but sometimes I give a surprise. Sometimes I will even have it shipped directly to them as an extra treat since we don't live in the same town. But I am the kind of person that constantly buys presents for everyone, regardless of age or relation to me - so take that into consideration. My goal is just not to have the kids only associate me with presents, so I will purposely not give them something sometimes just to help with that.
Yeah. sometimes it is just great to get a toy/present as a surprise instead of having to wait for a known day like a birthday/holiday/etc. though I do keep most of the kids.woot purchases for those types of occasions.
@gt0163c: Toys for moms and dads are not allowed on woot websites...
@elandria: mine usually go in a gift stash. But since Xmas '09 when I ended up with way too many gifts, I keep a running list of what I have. Worked perfectly last year. My kids are getting invited to more and more parties now that they're getting older, so I don't think I'm going to have to worry about gift overflow. Then again, I haven't made nearly as many kids.Woot purchases in the last year, compared to the several years previous. Not as many unique items or educational stuff. Too many character pillows and snuggle blankets.
I keep an eye on kid's woot year-round for interesting toys. This way by the time we get to Thanksgiving and panic about Christmas and the kiddo's birthday (just over a month after) I can remind myself of the things I've stashed in the back of the closet. Sometimes I've hoarded too much for both occasions, and then I hang back on a few items and use them as rewards for outstanding report cards or other behavior we want to encourage.
I don't think I've ever gotten anything for myself or my husband from kids.woot specifically, but I've gotten us both geek/desktop entertainment "toys" from other sites in the woot family. Those we don't really share. That reminds me, I've got an Adipose baby sitting on the edge of my sink, waiting for a bath. Sticky little bugger.
I frequently buy random items from all the Woot sites. I try to place them in a box to give as gifts etc. but curiosity usually gets the better of me and I open them.
I buy toys to play with myself. Of course, I don't have kids, so there's no dilemma about whether to open them when the box comes or wait for a special occasion.
Do parents really not buy toys for themselves? If each kid had their own toys to play with, why can't Mom and Dad have their own toys? When I visit my nephews, particularly at Christmas, they know that there's their toys and there's Aunt Rue's toys. And, if they ask, I'll let them play with them. But, they're definitely mine.
