Do you leave your posts/deals with your positive vote, or do you change it to neutral?
When I post a comment, deals.woot automatically adds a positive vote, and I've always just left it like that. But I'll see comments with a zero score and I'll wonder "who would downvote this?" When I mouse over it, however, I see that it's zero up, zero down, and I believe that people change their scores to neutral. So I wonder, am I being uncouth by leaving the vote for myself?
I leave it positive, why would you post a deal you dont like?
Or if they haven't purchased from Woot! they don't get that automatic +1 vote.
As someone else noted, why in the world would I post a deal and then downvote it myself?
@magic cave: Split personalities?
Never noticed an automatic upvote when commenting. But if the comment isn't positive, I would knock it down to a neutral.
I have accidentally downvoted a few deals/questions. It's easier than you'd think on a tablet...
@okham: than, of course, you can amend that right away. I have done the same.
I posted a deal early this AM - actually before bedtime. I hardly had a chance to reread it before someone downvoted it! Really hates wooden dolls or me. I will leave you to assume which.
Deals.woot is a popularity-based system - it's hardly the place to be self-effacing. You take how ever many automatic upvotes it allots you and you smile about it.
Have never really considered neutral voting one of my posts. That seems counter-intuitive. If I find something that I am indifferent about, I simply don't post.
As others have said, I have down-voted deals accidentally. This is usually a sure sign that I need to go get another cup of coffee.
@xarous: Thanks - I'd wondered about that.
I have to say that downvoting myself never crossed my mind.
Another click? F that. I'm too lazy and don't care enough to be Good Guy Greg and neutralize the automatic upvote. Seems silly to me anyway.
It's just what @xarous said, people who haven't bought from woot yet, regardless of triangle colour or join date, don't get the automatic vote. I don't think anyone removes their own upvote.
OK, this is a prime example of what I typically "don't" do.
If I have nothing to really add to a conversation (question or deal), I just read some of the comments, maybe upvote (or downvote) a deal/question, but if there's nothing else to say (that hasn't already been said), why waste my time (and other commenters/readers) with my useless addition.
However, if I have something to say, I'll say it AND leave the upvote. Granted, you can click on the up arrow to "neutralize" it, but no, I haven't done that before.
@sgrman05: If I post a deal I don't think many people will want, I vote it to neutral. That way, I don't lose out on my voting reputation AND my deals reputation.
For questions, it's when I post a question I only care about getting one answer, and really shouldn't go popular.
An off-topic comment that isn't funny usually has me starting it neutral, too.
@90mcg112: [chuckle] My spouse occasionally thinks so.
@omnichad: Interesting thinking there ... I'd not considered the rep-strategy possibilities. I suppose cutting the negative impact in half of a deal you know will be unpopular (but probably useful to some) is a fair use though.
@omnichad, so if we up-vote an otherwise unpopular deal our "rep" number takes a hit and vice versa?
