XBox Kinect?
Reviews of how cool this is? Or how lame it is? Curious whether I could use it as a primary exercise device.
Ask @shawnmiller. He just got one last week.
In terms of exercise, even the non-exercise games will give you a work out if you get into them, I don't own one, but i work at Best Buy, and giving demo's of the game is great fun. I do own a Wii, and for the movement game play, the kinect is much better, it is also nice that you can just step into the game (literally) while someone else is already playing. I personally don't believe it is quite worth the price tag yet, but it will only continue to get better, so overall I would say it's very cool. The biggest complaint I would have with it is the amount of space you need to actually play it, we were told that the recommended amount of space is a 10'x10' square in front of the T.V. for 1 person, and a 12'x12' square for 2 people. which unfortunately means that for people renting an apartment like mine, there isn't much room. So, until I move somewhere bigger, even if i wanted one, i wouldn't have the room.
Yeah, @stell12 is correct. It takes a lot of space. I have barely enough to make it work... but when it does it's some crazy Minority Report type (mod edit: profanity)
Haven't used it for exercise, just for playing around with Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, and Kinectimals. But I can say @lukeduff worked up a pretty good sweat jumping around my living room this weekend.
Thanks for the followup. Essentially I saw alot of people justify the Wii based on the idea that its good exercise. Other than a tired arm I haven't gotten much exercise from one.
Essentially the story goes like this honey I can spend 25$ a month for the gym or by getting me the Kinect and xbox 360 for my birthday we can save the $25 a month because I am Exercising with it. (plus the added benefit of having an XBOX 360 so I can play halo 3!)
I also noticed from demoing it at Best Buy that there is a considerable amount of lag between you and the response of the character(s) on the screen. I hope that this can be fixed with an update soon. Until then I think I will save my $150.
@segafanalways: that sucks =/
I know it will never happen but I was really tempted to buy one ever since I saw the Milo project thing. Sadly I doubt we'll ever see that.
As a followup for anyone that was reading. This is working great for our workout routine. It's fun and I work up a sweat doing it. The best part it doesn't appear to be exercise I'm playing a video game.
It is way superior because you are jumping up and down stepping side to side and running in place
