Does your office have Wi-Fi access that can be used for your mobile device?
One of my friends and I were discussing the accessibility of video media while you're not at home. I cited the lack of support for some video formats and sites, data caps, and slow 3g as barriers for the proliferation of videos on smartphones, and site-blocking and restrictions on downloading and installing plugins for browsers as a barrier for viewing videos on work computers. It was noted that connecting to wifi could solve some of the problems with smartphones, and I mentioned that I didn't think most workplaces had wifi available to its employees, at least not ones that would be open for personal use/allow access to video proliferation websites.
Thoughts?

No wifi isn't available to employees for mobile devices. Owners and the IT staff are the only ones with access on mobile devices. Luckily I'm part of the IT staff :D
Unless a company had a completely separate 'mobile' wifi AP, it would be a terrible idea to open up their corporate network to that kind of traffic.
My workplace has wifi access visible in some parts of the building. You authenticate with a password that links the connection to your username. We've got moderately heavy filtering on our internet here. I actually use my smartphone data plan and a personal laptop to circumvent the blocks. But yeah, I think if I was sitting in the right place, I could hook up my iPod Touch to wifi and jump on youtube with it at work.
I work at City Hall in our downtown area. A non-profit set up a wifi net that covers all of downtown. So I get unsecured access through there. Not good for paying bills but good for research and visiting deals sites.
@moondrake: Your bill-payment sites aren't over https?
We have WiFi, but it's encrypted (the bastards!). The WiFi network name is NCC-1701 which is the call sign for the Star Trek Enterprise. I've tried every possible combination for a password that involves Star Trek but can't crack it.
So, I just use my WiFi tether from my phone. One of the good things about Tmobile is the unlimited data that I've got. It's a little slower, but I've managed to snag a BOC on my TouchPad tethered to my phone.
We have open wifi, but it's really not that fast, and I'm still paranoid about having my traffic snooped. I pretty much just use 3G at work - I think it's more reliable, if a bit slower.
We have internal secure wi-fi that we can connect to with mobile devices. I work for a tech company, so it's kind of expected that we should have good access.
