iPad 1 versus iPad 2 - which should I buy for my fiancée?
My fiancée loves his iPod - he uses it mainly to watch videos, not music. Occasionally to search the web. He has shown definite interest in the iPad as a step up, especially since we will be doing some travel this year. Since I can probably get a deal on older iPads now, I was wondering if there was a significant reason to spend more on the iPad2. Again, his needs are simple. Videos and web browser, maybe some fun cheap games.

Given his wants/needs, I would get him a refurb iPad 1. They are $150 cheaper than their new iPad 2 counterparts and are essentially the same (except for the lack of camera on the iPad 1).
AT&T is offering up to $300 off of the original iPad.

Of course that discount is only off of the largest (64GB) model, but still it's a steal. The iPad 2 is faster and has a camera, but the original is still a great piece of technology.
From the description, I would agree that the cheaper, original iPad is probably the appropriate choice. Personally, though, I would want the latest and greatest. If the gender roles were reversed, you would HAVE to get the new one. One is not allowed to to go cheap on the ladies.
I heard a guy on the radio comparing the 2. The new one is much lighter, has 2 cameras. Much more with browsing and stuff. Not a substitute for a computer. Not so fast running multiple apps. I would think that once he gets the bigger and better he will use much more of the functions.
Check out Retrevo.com for today's article on the difference between iOS and Android - enough differences in operating systems and actually on machines to make any decision about what does what best harder. That is, unless you're stuck on Apple...
Thanks, guys. An iPad first generation it is. He has no need of a camera feature, and I'm stoked that I can get him a 64 gig version for the cheaper prices now.
