This is a good suggestion, but wasn't obvious to me based on the title. +1

I like this idea too.

yes, good suggestion. this was discussed in early development and needs to be revisited. I believe it was universally liked but the implementation we wanted was going to take some extra time.

one extension of this idea that we're planning for is to make the woot button also perform as a "check the woot database to see if conversation exists on this item before you buy it" type of tool - of course to do that it'll be pretty essential that a frame or lightbox pop up on the site you are on.

note - retailers who so desired could code to block frames or lightbox pop ups on their site.

edit: also, try right clicking and opening a deal in a new tab if that helps the function you're needing in the short term.

@snapster: the new tab thing is exactly what I do now.

We get a lot of questions from people who think they bought something from deals.woot.com.

Wouldn't putting a deals.woot frame at the top of whatever store is selling a product make this an even more - and much more understandable - misconception?

@anotherhiggins: Grr. That should have said, "even more common ... misconception. I must have whacked that word while editing.

@anotherhiggins: that is a valid point, maybe a page like the one for sellout.woot that tells people they are leaving woot instead with a reminder that they are purchasing the item from a vendor that is not affiliated with woot, etc?

@hobbit: That sounds like a good idea. Maybe a page that automatically redirects to the vendor after, say, 5-10 seconds.

@anotherhiggins: now let's pray that Staff sees this idea.....or perhaps we should create a fresh question for it.

To add a dissenting point of view, both of those ideas sound like they would really annoy me.

It seems perfectly obvious to me that nothing is actually bought from deals.woot.com, and the splash screen saying you're leaving deals.woot sounds like it will get very annoying very quickly, not to mention it will take longer to get to the site with the deal and then back to deals.woot afterwards.
