I work for a credit union; we get all standard holidays off. First time I've worked in a place with that bennie.

Why did you say we could tell you don't have it off?

vote-for8vote-against

@magic cave: I think the implication was that they wouldn't be posting this early if not at work.

For shame, doing personal business on the company dime! You'll drive them into bankruptcy.

Just kidding, of course. I woot from work, too.

@magic cave: Ahh, I just figured since it was 8am (EST), 7am (CST), 6am (MST) and 5am (PST), that people would assume since I'm up this early-- I was clearly working. I don't have kids, so I don't get up super early to take them to school or run them to daycare or whatnot. ;)

I get neither MLK or Presidents day. Instead of those we get the day after Thanksgiving, and one of the Eve's, either Christmas or New years. Not sure which.

My next holiday isn't until April with Good Friday.

vote-for4vote-against

We don't get president's day or MLK day. I used PTO to be off today. :)

vote-for5vote-against

Nope, I'm working. My next holiday is in May.

@hunter306: Okay, I guess that makes sense. I'm online so often between 4-8am (due mostly to sleep problems) that I tend to forget other people often aren't.

vote-for5vote-against

I don't get today off, but like the poster above, we do get paid for day after thanksgiving, which is awesome...

As long as you have the seniority to not be forced to work.

vote-for5vote-against

I officially have off. BUT, I am still working from home, which is what I am about to do right now :/

@mfladd: I am right there with ya bud... being salary is the suck sometimes...

vote-for10vote-against

I'm a full time stay at home dad. Our union sucks, we don't really get time off. Evar.

From January until May is a big dry spell as far as holidays. We get one day for New Year's, then nothing until Memorial Day.

vote-for5vote-against

Retired; it's a day like any other. :-D The only difference will be no mail delivery. But, that's not unusual when I think about their 'holiday' schedule. ;-)

I'm off. I also get President's Day. (This question is the first I've heard of the two being traded off.)

I also get Lincoln's Birthday on February 12th (or the closest Monday or Friday), which is a bit of a strange one.

vote-for6vote-against

My company does the trade-off. We don't get today off, and whenever it's been brought up the justification is that we get President's Day instead. We also get 2 workdays off each for Thanksgiving, Xmas and NY - so I can't complain. Much. :P

vote-for5vote-against

I am off today and President's Day. I pay for it in extra work tommorrow.

vote-for5vote-against

We don't have MLK day off. With our recent merger, we no longer get presidents day off either.

On the bright side, we get both christmas eve and christmas day along with new years eve and new years day off.

We used to have just the days, not the eves off. So, lost one PTO day, but gained two. That's 8 less hours that I have to work in a year that I still get paid for. yay :)

vote-for3vote-against

nope work today as if it's a normal day, which it is for me just another boring Monday at work. On a side note DAMN it's COLD out side.

vote-for3vote-against

I work 24/7, I am a teacher and an entrepreneur.

Officially I have today off at the University, but students keep asking questions, and I will keep answering them.

And business does not stop online. The Woot guys would get it! They don't have today off either it looks like!

vote-for2vote-against

Don't get either off. I must say I think MLK did a LOT for our country, but I am a bit perturbed by the cases where MLK is given as a holiday and presidents day isn't. One man cannot be more important than the 44 who have been presidents. I think both are important and if you want to do MLK you should also honor our presidents.

I realize that's probably not going to be a popular thing to say with some people, but its my opinion.

vote-for5vote-against

Yup. We used to have 3 floating holidays, then we had 2 floating holidays and MLK. Now we have no floating holidays, but MLK is still off.

vote-for2vote-against

We get MLK day and President's day. But we don't get Veteran's day (well, that's a Sunday this year anyhow). We do get Columbus day, which seems to be another day some get off and some don't.

My family slept in, went to the museum (free today), then went out for dinner with my boyfriend (who doesn't get MLK day, President's day, nor Columbus day off without taking a vacation day).

It was a lovely day. However, all the excitement means the rugrats aren't asleep yet. Grrr... aargh
