Has anyone else sent in their old 1st Gen iPod Nano for the Battery Recall?
The 1st Gen iPod Nano has a faulty battery that could be a fire hazard, so Apple recalled them. http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/
I requested a replacement for my 2GB Nano that had been sitting unused (it was completely dead) on the first day the announcement was made and was surprised to see that Apple sent me what looks to be a brand new 8GB 6th Generation iPod Nano. Not bad for a few minutes of my time to send in something that had been waiting to be taken in to be recycled.
Has anyone else submitted their old Nano that was sitting at the bottom of a drawer to Apple for the replacement? If so, what did you get back? If you have one, send it in and you're likely to get a nice, modern replacement for a few minutes of your time.

Oh wow! I am SO GLAD I saw this--I have a 1st Gen iPod Nano that I haven't used since I bought my iPod touch...this is great! I'll be sending it in this week.
Thanks!!
Good friend of mine sent in their 1st gen and got back what they believed to be a 6th gen iPod nano.
They spent less on their first gen than it would have cost for them to buy the new one, so I know they're happy.
@elizapipp: You're welcome. I was expecting nothing more than to get another 1st gen back with a new battery. All I wanted it for was for running with, I don't really like wearing my iPod touch on an armband, it's not all that comfortable. The replacement 6th gen is MUCH nicer for working out.
My nephew has been trying to buy up as many of these old nanos as he can lay his hands on to turn in and then resell them at a good profit.
I am glad I saw this, too. Thank you! I'd bought an iPod from my brother a few years ago, and didn't know what generation it was. As it turns out, it is a 1st gen, so I'll be getting a replacement.
My sister-in-law also rec'd the 6th gen Nano as a replacement. As one caution, the initial reports from folks that first returned their 1st gen Nanos was that they just rec'd refurbished versions of the 1st gen model, not the current model. So, as goofy as it sounds, it is a risk that they might start to just replace with refurb 1st gen models again.
My son had a 1st gen that was just 1GB and the battery died years ago, so it was sitting in a drawer for a looooong time. Apple announced early on that they would be replacing them with refurb'd 1st gen nanos, so that is all I expected from them. I sent it in and received a 6th gen 8GB nano a couple of weeks ago - Yay!
As a side note, if you have been considering buying a 6th gen nano, now is a great time to pick one up on Ebay for a great price! If you search specifically for "6th gen silver iPod nano" you will get tons of hits from people who received new ones as the result of the recall. I picked up two more there recently at a great price for the rest of my family to use.
Wow, I think my wife might have one. We'll have to check it out.
