As the resident shirt nerd, one might think I'd know the answer to this ... except apparently, my nerdiness is only with t-shirts. Sorry!

Check out Blank Apparel (BlankApparel.com).
A co-worker of mine uses this for ordering Polos that he wears to work. I've never ordered from them, but they seem reputable.
Here's an option for one with no pocket that you could also get in black.

work shirts to be embroidered and they have to be affordable as in....you cannot expense them? if so, that sounds like a lousy arrangement.

in either case i recommend lands end no-iron shirts. the fabric is high-quality (thick, but not so much that it makes you hot) and holds up for a long time

Look at places like Marshall's and TJ Maxx. I've gotten most of my dress shirts from them and they're typically good quality. You don't always find something good, but you can also get pretty lucky

What about going into a local shirt embroidery and asking to buy some blanks? Im sure they get them for cheaper then what you would buy them in retail. Worth a shot.

I like black button down shirts with khaki pants, but what other color pants can you wear with a black button down? Not too many options. Although my wife dresses me so what does that say.

@pinchecat: Hi, I can expense whatever I buy but I have a set limit. The more shirts I can get within the budget the better - of course I don't want crap either, yeah? I'll check out the Lands End outlet (sorta) near me. That might just be the ticket.

@coondogg97: That's a really interesting suggestion. I can talk to the shop we send our shirts to for the embroidery work. It would be pretty cool if they could cut me a deal. And we have to wear black pants with either a black or red or red/black or black/red shirt. It's a good look actually but yeah, once you put that black shirt on, there's not much else to go with it.

We have the same deal (kinda) at work. Check out Land's End. They have a whole catalog for this kind of stuff. I'm sure you will find a shirt that fits your needs and budget.

I've always thought the shirts at sym's had a pretty good price to quality ratio.

Hey y'all. If anybody cares, I never did find any truly great deals on button-downs sans pockets.

I did however get some amazing deals on some more casual shirts at Sears. I got an assortment of shirts (7 in all) in red or black for under $80. All in all, I did ok.

Thanks for the input.

For button down shirts Southern Advertising (SouthernAd.com) is the best in my knowledge! See this shirt - http://www.southernad.com/Custom-Button-Down-Promotional-Herringbone-Shirt-p/rh38.htm!

Yes, southernad.com is a good place for customized apparels. i have made some polo shirts from them last year and i found them very well in production.
