questionswhy was my top deal deleted? have you had a deal…

Yes, I've had a deal deleted. Did get an explanation after I asked why here. I saw & voted for your deal. Don't know why it would have been deleted. The only thing I can think of is it wasn't a coupon. I think you had to tell the server a 'phrase' to get the free bloomin' onion. Could be there's a rule about that. Or maybe not all Outback's were participating. Or something. :-\

Maybe @jumbowoot will come by & explain. Sorry it's gone. I know it's disheartening.

2 weeks ago the free pretzel deal from Auntie Anne's kept getting deleted then reposted several times a day. someone posted a question asking why and this guy commented:

http://deals.woot.com/questions/comment/97ebee8f-7d95-4857-a30f-a19295f78982

" if it's in a brick-and-mortar location and you don't have to get a coupon or completely some transaction online, it's not really a deal."

which is weird IMO. i posted the pretzel deal and mine was also deleted, then someone posted after me also and that was deleted. it kept very high on the "top" page every time but still...

@w00tgurl: Clicked on your link, then clicked on another link - Seems that guy is (mc)jumbowoot & he said,

"No buy button.
No "like us on facebook and get a coupon".
No "give me your email address and we'll send you a free sample".
No transaction at all."

To me it IS a deal. How else will everyone 'hear' about it if it isn't posted (as a deal) somewhere? ::sad face::

vote-for5vote-against

@gideonfrost: I wouldn't have posted that link if I'd been you. Don't be sad if it disappears.

To make it easier, here's the original statement from @jumbowoot:

http://deals.woot.com/questions/comment/26ff2496-5030-44c3-921f-7c1ae094feb9

[Edit] As an interesting side note, I'm beginning to see caching errors. Expect more fun vis a vis server errors.

I also gently point out that it's their site. They get to make the rules. Life's not fair. If it was fair, I'd win the lottery.

@gmwhit: oh i see, i never clicked on (mc)chris's link. didn't know it went to (mc)jumbowoot's post. oops
yeah i don't agree, it seems like in order for it to be a deal, it needs a transaction to happen? so if the deal had either a buy button, or a plea to like them on FB, or a requirement to enter an email, THEN it would be ok?

weird, oh well. i'd prefer someone to not require me to do a transaction, just show my face and get something free. that's the best kind of deal in my book. saying a 3 second jingle to the server for a free blooming onion, i can do that

mc@shrdlu's right, here's another of mcjumbowoot's from the same thread:

http://deals.woot.com/questions/comment/17f18b93-23c3-455d-83a6-bf5cd34cdd29

it was a question posted about why a deal for free fries at BK was deleted

vote-for3vote-against

@w00tgurl: Why are you putting that weird "mc" thing in front of everyone? While I do indeed have some Scottish blood, it's not any clan with a Mc or Mac in front of it (mostly Campbell and Stuart), and much of my lineage is Welsh.

vote-for4vote-against

@shrdlu: I'm embarrassed for myself, I started the 'mc' prefix on the St. Patrick's Day question. I humbly apologize. And thank you for explaining the Irish/Scottish difference. From now on, I'll be O'gmwhit. Which conveniently rhymes w/O'sh!t. And I don't even like scotch; preferred Irish whiskey when I was drinking the potent stuff.

Re: Rules. Of course, you're right. It is their site & we play by their rules. Sure glad I know about this non-deal, though. ;-)

vote-for5vote-against

@shrdlu: It's okay I'm not fond of Blizzards anyway.

This seems like an odd conversation to be having as it seems like every other top deal of the day is free food here or a free sample of this or that for you email.

Honestly I've never been a fan of food/freebie deals myself but I still post them if I find a good one.

@gmwhit: I think you're misquoting or misreading jumbowoot there (Or my interpretation of what you think you read there is confused (PS I've gone cross-eyed))

I feel like he's saying for that BK deal there was none of that It's like if I linked to a picture of a bilboard that said "come in to Long John Silvers on Tuesday and get a free Hush puppy" (Man I miss those) It's not a deal because you can't do anything to secure a free hush puppy from that site.

I understand why they'd kill a deal like this, because I can write a blog post right now saying Dairy queen will squirt you in the face with soft serve free on Monday then post it as a deal and if they didn't have rules against it the deal would become super popular. At least until Monday when no one gets a face full of soft serve, but by that time the damage is done to the system.

vote-for6vote-against

IMO, it's still a deal. Slickdeals is still sporting 2 deals on Blooming Onions. Slickdeals 1 and Slickdeals 2.

vote-for3vote-against

@gideonfrost: Yes, the quote I cited from @jumbowoot was referring to the BK deal, but the specifics seem to apply to this deal, too.

That's why I invoked him earlier; to get a ruling. If this type of deal isn't allowed, then I'd like to know.

An aside: We currently have a question about overpriced deals & now another on 'under priced' non-deals. Where's that happy Medium? ...think I'm going out to find a knowledgeable physic. ;-)

vote-for7vote-against

@missellienc: I hear you & agree that this is a great deal. Yet, as mentioned so often before, this site makes their own rules. Other sites differ on their definition of a 'deal.'

As a guest here, I must abide by those rules. Just trying to clarify what they are.

vote-for3vote-against

@gmwhit: physic = psychic How embarrassing! :-(

vote-for7vote-against

@gmwhit: I agree with you. Once they clarify the rules, maybe they should change them. Here's another good example of a deal that would probably be deleted --> When you buy a Keurig brewer and register it online, you get a great deal on your first order of k-cups. When you add 4 boxes (also at 10% off) to your cart, you get 2 of them free with free shipping. So I got 96 k-cups for less than $30, average 31 cents per cup. Thanks to SlickDeals, I saved over $36. So, to be honest, I go to SlickDeals for deals and to Deals Woot for socializing.
