My wife and I boycott Best Buy (especially their online) after a series of terrible customer service experiences.

vote-for10vote-against

I boycott Johnny Rockets due to a milk shake dumped into my lap. The server laughed, so I asked to speak to a manager. Who in turn came over and laughed. It was the one and only time I have EVER walked out of a restaurant with out paying.

I also boycott McDonalds due to a series of messed up ordered (Is ketchup only that difficult to make?) over the course of my senior year in high school.

A client of mine opened a restaurant (diner/grill) next to another client of mine (also a restaurant, pizza) and the pizza guy (who also owns a seafood restaurant across the street) got all territorial and built a wall to try to hide the diner from everyone's view.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa1OAZFeZK0 (jump to 4:45 for the story of the wall)

There's a lot of people who won't go to either of the other restaurants now because of that. The natural area looks much nicer now at Emma Key's. I make all of their signs.

vote-for3vote-against

@bogie21: We had a horrible experience at a Johnny Rocket's as well. Every time we're at the mall and walk past that place I want to smack a manager. But the one up the street is awesome. shrug

I refuse to give my money to support the Dixie Chicks. Yeah, I'm still on that kick.

vote-for5vote-against

Tmobile, Sonic, Furniture Wearhouse, etc...

vote-for11vote-against

No real full blown boycotts, but I don't usually go to Champp's anymore unless it's for work. 4 of us went after a Piston's game and we were pretty much the only people in the place. It took 15 minutes for a manager to come over and take our drink order, another 10 minutes to get the drinks, and another 30 minutes after that for our waitress to show up. When she shows up we find out she was the girl on the other side of the bar flirting with the bartender the whole time. She asked what we wanted, and I told her "the bill". Paid for our drinks and left.

I'm one of those people that don't like Walmart. I will shop there every now and then, but not very often.

I do refuse to ever go back to Comcast cable. It's not right when every month your bill is more expensive that the last.

vote-for34vote-against

If you can get all parties of yourself to sign a temporary release petition, you could suspend the boycott to see if anything has improved in the service area and then take a vote between you and yourself to decide whether to lift the boycott permanently or not.

vote-for9vote-against

McDonald's.
Clowns scare me.
We all float down here...

vote-for11vote-against

@captainsuperdawg I've done this a couple of times with McDonalds on long road trips when there aren't many other options for a quick breakfast. I feel too guilty to enjoy whatever it is I get.

The vote has been unanimous "no"

vote-for11vote-against

@bogie21: it's mcdonalds, not BK, you CAN'T have it your way.

Comcrap. Ever since I got sandvined a few years back I'll never use them again for anything

vote-for10vote-against

Gamestop - Grew tired of all the upselling and realized I could get new copies of games cheaper on Amazon and other places than I could at GS used. This is especially nice considering so many publishers are going to this online pass rubbish. If I'm going to have to pay $10-15 more for an online pass the used copy better adjust in price.

Dr Pepper - Why you take away my Dublin Dr Pepper? I hate you.

A few local restaurants that blew me away with how terrible their service was. Waitress walks by after I've been seated for >5 minutes "Hi, I'd like to get a glass of wa...oh ok I guess I'll catch you when you come back by..."

vote-for11vote-against

AT&T: because of poor service
Best Buy: 1 occasion I was actually wrong but they just handled the situation like wankers and they also cancelled my Christmas order.
1 particular Taco Bell: Poor management.

vote-for8vote-against

I used to boycott the movie theater in the last place I lived because it was such a dump, but now it's gone and so am I.

vote-for0vote-against

I wouldn't eat Heinz ketchup when Kerry was running for president. It's the only reason he got to where he was, marrying that nasty bimbo!

vote-for2vote-against

Yes. 7Up, Subway, Nike and the National Football League.

vote-for8vote-against

Kmart/Sears...Done. Over a month to get a refund from an online order that they didn't even HAVE in stock is nuts. When they finally refunded my money they gave me the wrong amount. 3 times I have ordered from them online and ALL 3 times something got messed up. 3 strikes and you're out! Those stores are going down the tubes fast...

AT&T/Dish...Done. AT&T Customer service is a horrible joke, and trying to cancel service with Dish for pi$$ poor reception was like trying to get gum off my shoe with more gum!!

vote-for6vote-against

Apple - because way too much people use their products and don't show the variety of other alternatives out there.

vote-for13vote-against

I'd love to boycott say all the companies that supported SOPA/PIPA.. but I can only bring myself to boycott a few of them like Lucky Brand Jeans.. Nike/Wal-Mart/Oakley I just can't bring myself to do it-- because it's such a necessity.

There is a Mexican restaurant near my house that I used to go to at least 1-2x a week, until they changed their awesome chips to a store-bought variation. They are just god awful, which is sad because their food is the best in the area hands down. So now I drive an extra 5 minutes to go to another Mexican restaurant that is almost just as good (food wise) and has hella-good chips/salsa

vote-for7vote-against

IHop because of deplorable food & resulting inferior customer service by the manager. (Bacon raw, brought back totally burnt. Manager did not believe that warranted a no-charge. I was not rude, nor did I demand anything.) Guess I hold a grudge since that was in another city & I know they're francised. ;-)

CVS because they require a 'card' to buy anything on sale. (Don't know if they still do; don't care to find out.) Walgreen's beats their prices even on non-sale items.

vote-for9vote-against

@jimeezlady: For me it's SEARS as well! Black Friday '09 I ordered stuff online that it ends up they didn't have in stock either. No notice to me that they didn't have it, that there would be a delay, nothing. I'd paid w/ PayPal, so they had already got their money. Only w/ PayPal's assistance did I finally get my money back.

vote-for6vote-against

@gmwhit: Wow! Another one I boycott! IHOP! The last three times I've been to IHOPs, 3 different locations, I waited forever to have my order taken, to get my order, then to get the bill. By the 3rd time & 3rd location, I figured it's policy to make ppl wait.

vote-for11vote-against

Walmart, Exxon, and anything made in France.

vote-for7vote-against

It used to be any Goodyear store and Sears Automotive. They were (don't know now - its been quite a few years) so horribly dishonest. Take your car in for one thing, and they would try to scare you to death about how unsafe it was unless and until umpteen dollars were spent on (what always turned out to be) needless repairs. Not that I trust most car repairs, but I think my new car dealer is fairly honest.

vote-for7vote-against

I used to work for Dreyer's Ice Cream (Edy's to you East Coasters) and left just before they combined with Kraft Pizza to form Nestle DSD.

I will never buy another Nestle product for as long as I can just because I despise their profit over people views as a company and what they did to Dreyer's. It sucks too because I loved Butterfingers.

vote-for6vote-against

Verizon. I've never had such terrible customer service. On the phone, they are awesome. But in the stores...that's a different story.

vote-for7vote-against

Walmart, Microsoft, Tom Cruise movies, Wells Fargo, Chase, Citibank, Discover and Los Angeles (the entire stupid city).

I'm sure there are plenty more but these are the first that leap to mind.

vote-for6vote-against

Chick-fil-a. I won't support a company that publicly supports laws that strip Americans of a basic civil right.

The sandwiches were nothing special, anyway.

vote-for6vote-against

Not really. I stopped getting Papa John's a few years ago because they had really really bad service. Messed up my order like no tomorrow. The driver got lost, and then decided "I wasn't home" and drove back. I called back about an hour after placing my order (est wait was 30 min), and get that story. So they send him again, he doesnt show. I try to complain and the response was basically "go [beep] yourself."

Stopped getting pizza from there for a long time. Even then, I know that that's that particular store, and not the company as a whole.

I generally just dont care enough to boycott something. My not buying isn't going to make a difference. If it's something I'm boycotting, there's very little chance the company ever got much of my money to begin with.

I know I'm jaded as hell, but I really just dont see the point in personal boycotts. It's just giving a name to what you're doing (or not doing) anyway.

vote-for5vote-against

That doesn't mean I disapprove of boycotts as a whole, however. The whole bit up there, that's just me. If a company is exposed to have racist or sexist practices or whatever, or is really screwing their clients, I'd voice my support of a boycott

vote-for6vote-against

I detest Sears. I ordered a pair of shoes online. They sent me the wrong ones and wrong size. Then they refused to pay return postage. They told me if I wanted a refund I would have to pay the postage or I could take them to the nearest Sears store.

I loathe Sears. I will NEVER shop there again.

vote-for5vote-against

In line with others - Walmart, Domino's, big banks, Exxon, Mel Gibson movies, high fructose corn syrup. I try to avoid stuff from China, but it's almost impossible (the dollar store should be called the China store).
Really miss BuyBlue.org

(no link 'cause no site)

vote-for4vote-against

After the absolute worst customer service in my entire life, I will never use Sprint for any reason.
After having the worst pizza I've ever tasted, I can't bring myself to risk ordering from Papa Johns ever again. (It was so nasty my son who was 6 at the time and could have qualified as a mutant ninja turtle due to his love of pizza couldn't even eat a slice.)
Sony. Their quality has gone downhill, and any company who tries to install rootkits on their customer's devices without their consent doesn't deserve their customer's support.

vote-for3vote-against

I boycott Progressive Insurance.

vote-for6vote-against

@fenriq: I was reading through the list prior to posting and wondering if I was the only one who boycotted Tom Cruise movies. Glad to see I'm not alone. My son had a DVD of The Last Samurai and tried to convince me to watch it with me. He said, "I know you don't like Tom Cruise but you should enjoy this one. He gets beat up a lot."

vote-for5vote-against

AT&T.

My phone wouldn't work and I had proof from wired and cnet that upgrades to the AT&T network had bricked my phone (Alright not quite, but any battery I put into it would drain in 5 minutes because the phone was reacting badly to a new signal output, and it was a common problem with this specific type of phone).

I walked into the store with my phone and copies of the stories and asked if I could get a replacement phone until my contract was up. They laughed at me and told me that it's my problem and that I'm scamming them. Oh, and they said that I made up the website stories and was putting on an impressive show.

I switched to Sprint and haven't looked back. At least Sprint doesn't laugh in my face.

vote-for8vote-against

@belyndag: I try to be the same way about Mel Gibson movies because the guy is a colossal douche.

I just hate the idea of these total tools profiting off me while they behave like such utter jackasses.

vote-for10vote-against

I started to boycott Radio Shack last week. Here's why.

I went in to add minutes to my cel phone, not everyone can have an iphone. So I choose to use Boost mobile. I have a great phone all I need to do is talk, text sometimes and check my email a few times a day and in a few months, I'll be down to $35 a month for unlimited everything because I am on the shrink plan. Anyway, when I went in to buy mins, the guy working asked my what kind of phone I had to add min to and I told him Boost. He said at the top of his lungs in front of customers...."BOOST, you need to get a Real Phone". I took offense and walked out. I called RS customer service and a week later a District Manager called me. He offered my a 35 dollar gift card. Screw Radio Shack......

vote-for9vote-against

Domino's (political), Exxon (environmental) and Macy's (personal). O'Hare Airport (even tho I love Chicago)(chronic delays and too much TSA).

vote-for4vote-against

Olive Garden - my wife had an incident where they said a giftcard was empty, she called after paying to get balance and had to go back in to get the money back. No apology or discount for making a scene (chased us on the way out) or inconveniencing us.

I'm fine with going along. I could never understand why there was always such a long wait to eat their terrible food in their loud restaurant.

vote-for8vote-against

Macy's for taking away Marshall Field's for no good reason.

vote-for3vote-against

All Apple products & services.

Anything Facebook related. That includes companies that advertise their websites as facebook.com/companyname.

vote-for-7vote-against

Boycott anything not made within a hundred miles. The interstate was a mistake, globalization a disaster. Corporate consumer society removes quality of life.

vote-for6vote-against

@nageltr: Agreed, Marshall Fields, at least the huge one in downtown Chicago, was awesome. Macy's is blah. Still haven't spent a penny there. I may someday... maybe ten years will be long enough...

We have a local high end Italian restaurant that had become our new favorite about a year ago. On our 4th or 5th trip in, we received extremely poor service that the waiter apologized for...it was unrelated to the food or his service.

Long short was that the owner was setting up for a private party and allowed 35 people to mill around a very small area in the main restaurant while drinking and waiting for their room. During the 20 or so minutes, you were unable to hold a conversation and no food was able to leave the kitchen due to the overcrowding.

My wife and I asked to speak to the manager who turned out to be the owner. She was so over the top rude with her attitude, answers and finger pointing in our faces that we left. We paid for the meal but stiffed the drinks. I tipped the waiter directly with cash for his service.

I have not been back and will not step foot into this establishment ever again under any circumstance. Gave a heck of a review on Yelp though!

vote-for4vote-against

Jane Fonda, won't watch her or buy any of her products.

vote-for-3vote-against

Walmart. It's difficult at times, because I'm on a fixed income & their prices are less expensive. But, they treat their employees poorly, pay them as little as possible & don't provide decent benefits (health ins., for example)for part-time staff, which is about 90% of their workforce. With the thousands of employees they have, they have a tremendous opportunity to improve the lives of so many; not just the employees, but their families as well. They could provide free stop-smoking programs, weight reduction programs, college reimbursement incentive programs, classes in nutrition, money management, parenting, etc. & they could encourage participation by having the classes during the employees workday. The possibilities are limitless. They could do all this & still make the "zillions" they currently make in profits. I know it's idealistic, but as "corny" as it sounds, they really do have the opportunity to make the world a better place.

vote-for3vote-against

Another for me is Target for their political activity that goes directly against their corporate image. At least Walmart kinda embraces who they are.

vote-for4vote-against

@comicbookguy2085: I completely agree with you about gamestop I haven't set foot in a store in a few years. The mark up for used items are insane. Especially when they started marking used games games for $5 less than new. Fortunately There is a Disk Replay near me, so I go there or pawn shops for my game gear.
