On the news now~maybe 2 bombs and at least 6 hurt.

vote-for5vote-against

not saying for sure that it was a bomb(s) --2 explosions. But is looking that way.
Official report 2 casualties, many serious injuries. ( count 22 right now)

Sending good thoughts and wishes to the runners and their families

Kudos to the emergency workers who are doing a great job, by the sounds of it.

Now saying bomb found in the hotel nearby. but who knows what is speculation, rumor or fact at this point.

Live coverage is available streaming from WHDH Boston http://www1.whdh.com/video/7newslive/
A clip from CNN has been posted on YouTube showing the explosion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4Mx5qbgeNo

The current word is that two homemade explosives are involved, and the injury count is up to 23.

My heart goes out to injured and the families of all the victims.

Apparently a third device was detonated by the bomb squad (with a water cannon?)

I heard it on the radio a few minutes ago.

Thanks to those providing the live news links.

So sad and unbelievable. Here everyone was worried about N. Korea taking some sort of attack action today; sure didn't expect something like this.
The Boston police is asking everyone there who can, to send in ANY pics they might have, so they can try to figure out who did this and why. Not yet designated as a "terrorist" act, but they say that once the FBI takes over, that's what they'll do to give them more power to investigate. Hard to believe no one has taken responsibility thus far. They apparently normally "up" security on Patriot's Day in Boston in general, but had no reason to really expect anything to happen since nothing has in recent years. They've now just evacuated another nearby hotel as a precaution.

WBUR's (Boston excellent NPR affiliate) live radio streaming: http://www.wbur.org/listen/live

Mass Avenue Bridge over the Charles River currently closed to traffic.

Do we have any runners out there that we should be worrying about? I can't recall anyone mentioning they planned to run it.

Press conference starting now. Gov. Patrick just introduced Police Cmmr. Davis.

vote-for5vote-against

CBS & NBC are both reporting unofficial info from feds that there is no chatter anywhere that would indicate further danger. Both also report a third device was found and detonated safely by police/feds.

vote-for4vote-against

The Boston Police Commissioner just said one of the devices was discovered at JFK??? Did I hear that right?
Edit: He just said it was the JFK Library in Cambridge where the 3rd explosion occurred--situation still unfolding. (It was not the controlled one that they did.)

vote-for4vote-against

@reginafilangee: I thought a JFK library rep said it was unrelated, and confined to an electrical room (??)

vote-for11vote-against

@magic cave: Wootizen or not, I feel that we should be concerned about all of those involved.

It's sickening that this sort of thing happens. It's more sickening that nine times out of ten, it affects people that had nothing to do with the reasons the bomb was placed.

It makes me sad to think someone did this -- that someone could value whatever reasons they have more than human life.

If you are missing a close friend or loved one and need to find him or her, you are encouraged to call the Mayor's 24-Hour Hotline at (617) 635-4500.

If you have possible information about the explosions, call CrimeStoppers at (800) 494-TIPS.

@ginawoot: Well, they just now evacuated the Kennedy School of Government Studies Bldg on Harvard's campus (near the library, and sharing a name) in case it's related. They aren't sure.

@capguncowboy: I absolutely concur. I'll never be able to understand the type of people who can do things like this.

vote-for3vote-against

Just saw the footage. That is one sick (bleep). This was planned and deliberate, with one explosion going off, then another going off across the street a minute later to get the first responders. I hope whenever they catch the person(s) responsible, they cut off his balls and feed them to him for his last meal before flipping the switch on the chair. I realize some are trying to back off from saying 'terrorist attack', but keep in mind terrorists are not necessarily foreigners. The Unabomber and He Who Shall Not Be Named were both Americans. Don't kid yourself, this was the very definition of a terrorist attack. Planned at a time and place to incite as much terror/panic as possible.

This Friday is the 18th anniversary of OKC...I can't deal with this right now. Computer and TV are off the rest of the day.

@curtise: Hm, that phone line is pretty likely to be clogged...

Red Cross recommends their "Safe and Well" site: www.redcross.org/safeandwell

Update/check facebook or twitter, if the person uses it.

Text rather than call, cell lines are still overwhelmed locally.

Thoughts and prayers going out to all those impacted by this horrific act.

vote-for4vote-against

Now they are saying they were bombs. A third one was found and detonated by the police. The library was unrelated. Not sure if it was foreign terrorism, or a home grown nut job. (like Oklahoma City)

@capguncowboy: "Wootizen or not, I feel that we should be concerned about all of those involved."

Surely you don't think I have no concern for non-Wootizens? Perhaps you're just upset, but I'm really offended by your implication.

vote-for4vote-against

@magic cave: I certainly can't speak for @capguncowboy, but I REALLY don't think he meant to imply any such thing. I read his post totally differently than you did, but I do understand how things can "sound" differently than intended, especially when one or both parties is upset during such an emotional event. Please take a breath. We're all (human beings, that is) in this together.
Big Hugs

@magic cave: I wasn't implying that you weren't concerned. My apologies if you took it that way :)

Newest report: at least 86 inured. One MD who was on scene as a witness said that one victim lost both legs at the knees.
Still "only" 2 (known) fatalities, but that's two too many. :-(

vote-for8vote-against

A little late getting here, didn't see anyone mention it, but if you have someone specific you are worried about and hotlines aren't working for you Google has already made a service:
http://google.org/personfinder/2013-boston-explosions/

You can both search for information on specific people, or provide information about specific people if you have any.

Absolutely unthinkable.

Also, BBC has a live stream as well, if you're into that sort of thing. (about 20 links on their front page, can't miss it)

@capguncowboy: It's all good. My son plans to run the Boston next year. It's been a hard day for most of us.

vote-for3vote-against

Sadly, death toll now at three; one of the fatalities an eight-year-old boy. Injured tally over 130.

FBI has taken the lead in the investigation. 15-block area around Copley Square, near the iconic public library, will be cordoned off for at least 24 hours. Earlier reports that a suspect was in custody were unfortunately not true.
