I feel like you should specify between visits in general and unique visits. That is, many users visit at least twice a day, so should each visit made by one person count separately, or should we just count how many people visit the site in a 24 hour period?

From Google help files:

Visits vs. Visitors

Analytics measures both visits and visitors in your account. Visits represent the number of individual sessions initiated by all the visitors to your site. If a user is inactive on your site for 30 minutes or more, any future activity will be attributed to a new session. Users that leave your site and return within 30 minutes will be counted as part of the original session.

The initial session by a user during any given date range is considered to be an additional visit and an additional visitor. Any future sessions from the same user during the selected time period are counted as additional visits, but not as additional visitors.

@nimblewalrus: sorry, by visits I do not mean anything more specific - not visitors, not absolute unique visitors but the more numerous 'visits'. I'm not sure of Google Analytics exact measurement - I might guess it to be both session, time and cookie based so as not to overcount someone hopping around back and forth from another retailer and back (we do not see that activity as 2 visits)

edit: @tygerdave awesome - that supersedes my guess as to how they track it.

vote-for3vote-against

137,042 Visits/Day is my guess!

vote-for3vote-against

227,115 visits/day is my guess

vote-for1vote-against

due to the recession I will say 408,908 peeps looking for a deal

vote-for10vote-against

I know my mom is in and out all day long and if there are others like her I am going to say:

1,315,000 peeps/per day

vote-for6vote-against

1 visit. This is Price Is Right rules, right?

vote-for9vote-against

@niloc225: Your mom sounds like my mom. So I am going to say:

1,400,000 visits/per day

vote-for8vote-against

@dave bug: heh, no, I thought about that but figured closest was only a tad more calculation. I guess they did that rule to avoid mistakes though - never had stopped to figure out why.

no real staff guesses!

vote-for1vote-against

173,671 visits per day.

vote-for1vote-against

let's say 889,754 per day

vote-for5vote-against

And not one smart-alec has responded with "42."

732,451

vote-for9vote-against

As Alexa ranks woot at # 156 in the US, I an going to say:

1,500,000

vote-for3vote-against

@lavikinga. I wanted to win the shirt, but I did what I could.

vote-for5vote-against

@tygerdave: Well done. You had but one vote to give.

vote-for4vote-against

some of us never leave, rather like Hotel California.

vote-for2vote-against

/me throws hat into ring

61,041 visits.

vote-for8vote-against

OK I'll bite, 1,314,668 visits per day.

vote-for4vote-against

1,000,000 (sticks pinky in corner of mouth)

vote-for9vote-against

Ok - let's wrap.

A few of you may have gotten off track referencing main www.woot.com visits, but many were quite on target for deals.woot visits. Of those participating very few guessed lower than we have, so that part of the exercise was interesting.

********
The correct answer for average daily visits to deals.woot in May is 149,688

vote-for4vote-against

vote-for8vote-against

@snapster This is superfantastic, thanks snap man. I will put this shirt in my top drawer.

vote-for2vote-against

@snapster: Thanks so much! I tried to get A Novel Idea, but got an error message that "This Coupon Code Won't Work" Could I be doing something wrong?

vote-for5vote-against

@tygerdave: it's likely dumb-CEO-error. I probably punched something in wrong and will verify in the morning.

vote-for3vote-against

@snapster: Whoa. I never win anything. Thanks!!

vote-for8vote-against

@tygerdave: now fixed - sorry for error. number transposed had assigned your coupon to random user @malachi2004, who will presumably never see this.

hey malachi malachi2004 if you ever are ego-surfing your user name on google and see this, go to http://shirt.woot.com/reckoning and get a free shirt with code 149688 assigned to your account due to a data entry error.

vote-for2vote-against

when he does see it, he's just going to buy Nevermore. I hate that shirt.

vote-for2vote-against

And I'm totally shocked by the number.

#1. that it is so piddly small as compared to what I assume the sister sites get.
#2. that it counts people who go to sellout.woot

Say we've got 150k a day here. Consider my BIG FALSE ASSUMPTIONS... I'm guessing that woot.com ballparks in at 10x that (1.5M visits/day). I figure kids.woot gets 10-20% of woot's traffic. It's amazing to me that we're not getting more than 150k based on the sellout.woot item alone.

This says 2 things to me - we need better items at sellout.woot. Notice I didn't say pricing. The preview images don't spoil the price. The key is getting the item look. Secondly, I hope the cost to run this site is cheap so that the ROI and growth potential is worth it (I suspect it is, otherwise you'll be shuttering it soon). I've always seen this site as more of a branding/advertising cost than a profit engine. shrug

vote-for3vote-against

Thanks for fixing me up!

@fgarriel: I think they probably do OK - Most product links going out are altered with their referral ID and they'll get a few % commission. That also means if you want to help the Woot bank account you can try to start here any time you make an online purchase
