Tell me some good Romantic Comedy movies....
I like watching Romantic Comedies. Probably my 2 favs are
American President
Shall We Dance
Of course, there's Officer & a Gentleman too. I need to rewatch that one. It's been a long time since I've seen it.
An old one is Brigadoon but that's because we did it as a play in HS. Heh.
Others?
As a guy I'm not a huge fan of romantic movies, but a decent Rom-Comedy is okay every now and then. I'm hoping I won't have to turn in my man card after this....
Love Actually - fantastic movie, my girl loved it and I did too. It's funny and makes you go aww, and gives me a happy feeling in my tummy.
While You Were Sleeping - an oldie but a goodie.
The Notebook - I did not cry...I did not cry...
The Holiday - for some reason we both really liked this as well, not sure why, but it just was a fun movie.
The Wedding Singer is the first one that comes to mind. Also anything with Goldie Hawn (Overboard, Bird on a Wire and Foul Play)
The Princess Bride. It's romantic, and it's a comedy. Sha-BAM. No contest. This is the winner.
When Harry met sally, it's old I know, yet still makes us laugh. I second the Notebook, and The Time Traveler's Wife w/ Rachel mcAdams, I did not expect it to be a good movie, glad I was wrong
Dr. Horrible is a tragic romantic comedy. Does that qualify?
Are the Rock Hudson/Cary Grant/Doris Day movies too old?
@pooflady: Oh heck no. I mean, come on! I mentioned Brigadoon!
Arsenic and Old Lace with Carey Grant and as mentioned The Princess Bride, which is all about true love.
@thunderthighs: Would you mind phrasing that as a question?
Haha J/K
I am trying to think of good ones but the only thing I come up with are all movies have some romance and some comedy. Except for Shindler's List.
Good Will Hunting - That apple bit was the best joke ever and there's romance between Will and Skylar.
Ghostbusters - Comedy part is easy Bill Murray is in it. Also there's romance between Murray and Sigourney Weaver. Or Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver Gatekeeper/keymaster.
Anyway I'm sucking at romantic comedies. I can't come up with any great ones.
Sleepless in Seattle
Moonstruck
Four Weddings & a Funeral
Jerry Maguire
Pride & Prejudice
Fever Pitch
just saw the backup plan and thought it was pretty good
The Quiet Man has some really good bits. McClintock is good as well. Anytime Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne got together there were sparks. For a movie that makes you feel good try Kinky Boots. Some comedy, heavier on the romance Pleasantville. Heavy romance, The Painted Veil.
The best one I have seen lately is Crazy, Stupid, Love. It was very good!
One of my all time favs is Shakespeare in Love. It is a period film, but still romantic and funny.
You've Got Mail! It's cute, and you can chuckle at the days when you had to wait for dial-up to connect so you could log on to AOL.
Crazy, Stupid, Love. Great movie.
Father Goose with Cary Grant and Leslie Caron. Or His Girl Friday. Or Bringing Up Baby. Hmmm. Guess I just love Cary Grant!
From Father Goose: "Goody Two-Shoes and the Filthy Beast?!"
Stranger Than Fiction is one of my favorites.
I was surprisingly pleased with "The Proposal"
Serendipity
Check out Heartbreaker. French movie but lots of English speaking. Funny sort of spy movie. I'm a guy and I liked it.
Morning Glory with Harrison Ford (yeah I know your thinking really ?) I really liked it romantic and funny
I am not a fan of Rom-Coms, but my hands down favorite is LA Story, with Steve Martin. It's hilarious, with an ending that really grabbed me. I will never look at electronic freeway signs the same way again.
Others I really liked:
Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Brangelie in a shooting war)
As Good as it Gets (Jack Nicholson stars)
The Wedding Banquet (Ang Lee directs)
Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hugh Grant stars)
The Holiday (Jack Black, Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz)
In general I find that I like just about any rom-com starring Jack Nicholson or Hugh Grant.
Overboard. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
Tin Cup. Kevin Costner and Rene Russo.
Working Girl. Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford.
Don Juan deMarco. Johnny Depp, Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway.
Heartbreakers. Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Gene Hackman.
I'm not a big fan of JLH, but that's one of the movies we watch over and over.
I also cast my vote for The Princess Bride. You can never go wrong with The Princess Bride.
Cant believe no one has mentioned, True Romance!
Always by Stephen Spielberg is a GREAT one too :-)
