questionswhat do you think for overall sound and noise…

I have tried both and to be honest, they compete rather evenly. I'd say the Beats cancel noise better than the Bose, but the sound quality of the Bose is more natural. I'd go down to your local Best Buy and try them both out.

On side note: the BEST noise-cancelling headphones I ever used were my Amp'd Mobile headphones. $20, and cancelled everything. Flip a switch and you went dead to the world. It's a shame I can't fin them.

If you want outer-ear headphones, and want to spend a few hundred bucks on a quality pair, I suggest you jump out of the "trendy mainstream" and land yourself a pair from Ultrasone's or Denon's line-up. How much are you wanting to spend?

I've not personally tried them, but I hear the $200 Dre headphones are no better than the $100 Bose -- and my Sony MDR-V6 headphones blow the Bose headphones out of the water (and their only about $75 on Amazon).

@jeffyn: I have a pair of Able Planet - Linx Audio noise cancelling headphones. They were $50 from woot a year ago. Removable cord, in-line volume adjustment. They work like regular headphones when powered off, dead batteries.
I have to admit I've never tried Bose or Dre, but I'm pretty happy with these.

At least we're not talking about style-over-substance Skullcandy. Urgh.

I tried a lot of them out (thank you liberal Amazon return policy!) before buying. I found the Bose superior to the Beats on sound quality, and about even on noise-canceling.

Personally, I bought Audio-Technicas which blew the rest away IMHO.

Ok so best headphones under $300?

Sorry just got off a plane. Yes I agree, no skull candy. Anything over ear, worth my $$ and keeps the baby a few rows back blocked out!!

Back to back 14 and 5 hr flight crying babies...

I have the Bose QC15's and and my wife has the Beats. I am partial to mine so I probably wouldn't be a good choice to provide an impartial review. However, she does openly admit that she only bought the Beats because they are "prettier"

Bose! Especially for canceling passengers on a flight!
