As far as I know, no. HD is HD. You need something that receives HD signals. Is HD worth it? IMHO, no. But that's just me.

@jsimsace: Netflix plays in HD on my PC.

I'm with him on this one. I think the online streaming from their site should offer HD. I really can't wrap my mind around a reason they wouldn't

I guess I don't understand why only specific devices... the internet connection is the same whether it's going to a computer or an Xbox. Wireless would be slower to a mobile device yet they support the Kindle Fire and iPad. Why couldn't I watch HD on my computer?

I'm guessing it's because it's too easy for pirates to crack the encryption on the PC. Dedicated hardware is easier to control and secure.

I found this statement on Amazon's Help page:

"Note: At this time, HD movies can't be streamed from a computer."

Geez, that was helpful Amazon.

Anyway, I use a Roku hooked to a home theater receiver. I thought all Wooters had Rokus and Sansas!

@missellienc: A ROKU IN EVERY HOME, A CHICKEN IN EVERY POT (unless you are vegetarian)

As to the OP, honestly, I'd just ping customer service and see if they've got some suggestions (but then I'm not very technical).

This is a licensing issue, pure and simple. The content creators are deathly afraid of piracy, so they will not allow their content to be streamed in HD to a computer. Amazon must comply. It isn't them. Of course, all these movies are available in HD via, ah, alternative distrubution channels, shall we say.

If you really want to be legal and watch these in HD part with the money and get a Roku.

You may not want to, but I still recommend the Roku. Easy to get going with and worth it just to have a fun toy.

That is wierd because you can stream HD TV Shows on a PC but not HD Movies ( I just check). Never noticed this before. Hope they fix this in the future.

Thank you all for answering me... I think I'm going to wait until they figure it out. There's no way I'm buying a Roku to sit on top of my media computer just for Amazon's videos. If they don't improve their streaming by the time my student discount wears off, I may switch back to Netflix. I prefer Amazon to Netflix so far though, despite Amazon's terrible web site. Why, oh why, is there no option to sort by Title?

(@missellienc: I have bought several Sansas, but never needed a Roku :)
