Twinkies I am not so excited about, but the Fruit Pies...oh my! I hope they are as good as when I was a kid. I find most things do not taste as good as they used to. I don't know if it's the change over to high fructose corn syrup or what. Maybe my taste buds are just old!

@hot72chev: I agree w/you on the HFCS issue. The really scary thing about HFCS is that it is in so much processed food, and the source is GMO corn. GMO corn has NEVER been through the standard 10-year FDA approval process w/peer-reviewed lab studies. Yet Monsanto & other biotech firms swear it is perfectly safe, just like Agent Orange, DDT and the other products they made in the past were.

I've actually started to prefer Little Debbie's Dream Cakes or Cloud Cakes or whatever they're called. Heresy, I know.

@zuiquan: Little Debbie's are never bad...never ever. Ah, the sugary goodness!

Pretty darn smart of them, amping up all the hype. There was a rush to buy what was left on shelves when they went out of business, and I bet there will be a pretty good rush to buy once they hit the shelves again.

I myself am looking forward to some Ding Dongs and Zingers!

The name Twinkie just has too much brand name recognition to fail misreably. I think these products will make a comeback :)

With iconic movies such as ZOMBIELAND ;) promoting Twinkies goodness, how can they fail.

Personally, I really want the chocolate cupcakes and fruit pies. If I see them in a store in July I cannot be held responsible for what I do.

I don't know what it is about the crust on the fruit pies, but I really love it. I think it's a combination of very heavy crust and the sugar glazing.

Throwing in a little healthy conspiracy theory action...it is possible (not likely, I think it was more for union busting than anything else) that this is just a bunch of BS so the recipes can be changed and people would be less likely to notice? I mean, not that I 'mind', I love dark chocolate, but they've already admitted they are changing the cupcake recipe. IFC has been in and out of bankruptcy more often than Family Guy and Futurama have been canceled combined. Now suddenly they throw up their hands and say nope, this time it's for real...but months later the products are back. Yeah, and a few of the local car dealerships are 'under new management' every other month as well.

Sorry, I just can't get New Coke out of my mind on this. "Here's New Coke...you'll love it!" Shortly after: "OK, we've heard you, we're bringing back Coke Classic...with a new recipe, but we're not telling you that part".

There are a few others, and one of them (I forget which) tastes EXACTLY like the real ones.

@stile99: Changing the cupcake recipie?? WTH?? Nooooooooooooo!!!!

vote-for2vote-against

@stile99: Really? I read that the company has said publicly that they have not changed any recipes. Let's hope they're telling the truth, at least about Twinkies.

@stile99: Re: Coke. Costco carries the original made-with-sugar Coca Cola in my local store. Maybe in yours, too?

@magic cave: It is made in Mexico and it tastes great with twinkies.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this article says the cupcakes will be made with a darker cocoa, rather than milk chocolate.

http://www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2013/06/23/hostess-twinkies-to-return-to-shelves-july-15

"In the months since they vanished from shelves, the cakes have been getting a few touchups as well. For the CupCakes, the company is now using dark cocoa instead of milk chocolate to give them a richer, darker appearance.

Seban stressed that the changes were to improve the cakes, not to cut costs. Prices for the cakes will remain the same; a box of 10 Twinkies will cost $3.99."

I just hope someone brings the banana flip back. I miss that.
