A whole lot of nothing. We don't even have a Christmas party. I usually crash my Mom's company party.

I expect to get $100 after taxes/FICA is taken out. Others who haven't worked as long/as many hours for the company get $50. My company refers to it as a "year-end bonus". I also will get an extra check the 1st pay period after the 1st of the year for unused sick pay I accumulated above the 200 hour threshold.

Hahahaha. Christmas bonus. You jest, you jest.

vote-for9vote-against

Christmas bonus? What is this strange mythical unicorn you speak of. Haha, heck if I didn't normally have off on Sundays I would be working (there are other co workers who aren't so lucky). So my Christmas bonus... non existant

I'm traveling down to the office for the Christmas party... and I'm going to eat and drink freely while at it. I expect that's the bonus.

Bonus? What is this bonus you speak of? Oh you mean still employed in 2012. Yeah that. I expect that.

vote-for5vote-against

Christmas bonus? Oh yeah, I remember those...

As a self-employed person, I'm inventing my own Christmas bonus this year. Haven't decided yet what it is, I'll let you know when an idea comes.

I got a $1000 bonus from my part time job, but it came as a second check and they taxed it at a "bonus" rate instead of regular salary, so after taxes I got $589. That sucks.
I mean I am appreciative of the bonus, but it sucks that the government gets over 40% of it for nothing.

i get a Coke and a smile, without the Coke. people get bonuses? *gasp*
my company does throw a Christmas party though. 2 drink tickets per person

Continued employment is always a nice bonus in my world.

My company does year-end bonuses, but I'm one job title below that level. Basically, the entry-level positions are paid an hourly wage, and no bonuses. The theory is that I'll come in extra hours and earn overtime.

Just waiting for the next promotion!

My company does $100 per year of employment.

In the past it has actually been a gift from the owner and actually arrives in the mail as a personal check from him and his wife. This way it is not taxed as income, or so we've been told. I'm still leery of this, but my tax preparer has agreed it is a gift and not income.

What is this 'bonus' you speak of? I haven't had a bonus in many, many years.
Hell, I don't even get any sick days, and I work out in the elements.

$1000 in December, $2000 in March, $6000 in April. :)

Christmas bonus? I get to go back to work after Christmas!

My employer is generally very good to employees, but it's a non-profit credit union, and these are difficult times for most people. We dropped bonuses for a couple of years, but we got a small bonus last spring and I expect another one this year. For Christmas, if anything, it'll be a fairly small gift. Company-logo laptop bags, insulated lunch carriers, that sort of thing.

@inkycatz:

Boss: "This Christmas I decided not to fire you."
Employee: "Thanks!"

the last time I got a Christmas Bonus, it was a box of fruit......

Nope! No bonuses for Western Holidays...I did get a nice little $500 Bonus for mid-autumn festival, though :)

@wootmeharder: In the end, it doesn't really matter how they tax it initially. If they take %40 (more likely actually 35%) from the check, when you go to file your taxes unless you make more than around 35k (not likely working PT) you will get 25% (or likely 20%) of that withholding back. So the government isnt really "getting" anything other than to make interest on your tax over payment balance that you could have earned yourself. The more you make, the more they take! Imagine how bad it sucks to be rich!?!?
