That's as silly as taking a magic carpet ride in a tornado. And yes, I believe in magic, but only as an extension of unexplained science or tech.

I ran out of space, wanted to thank @pickypickypicky for the inspiration. Is it right to thank someone for negative inspiration? Also, wanted to add, I DO enjoy the question forum. Just not the obligatory 'ask better questions' (or your rep will plummet.)

Hope the question forum remains; fervently hope that the rep part will be taken out.

@gmwhit: I think songs might work, lets see what everyone thinks. Maybe we could use the word earworm in the title? I love the questions, especially the funny ones, but I always feel badly for the poor questioner, with an awkward question, getting down-voted into oblivion. If we just all agreed on a specific cue, maybe wooters would be nicer about it. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have questions at a regularly scheduled interval. I may have a spate of funny ones, and then a lag, and then some technical ones, and then a site one. It's the lags that kill rep. Lets see what we can come up with.

I'll check back tomorrow, see where this goes.

"You have to believe we are magic
Nothin' can stand in our way
You have to believe we are magic
Don't let your aim ever stray
And if all your hopes survive
Your destiny will arrive
I'll bring all your dreams alive
For you"

@pickypickypicky: Agree w/Earworm in the title - almost put it on the title of this one. Not going to look, but eons ago I think I asked a question about earworms. I LOVE song lyrics/titles, etc. I, too, ask all types of questions to - when I'm in the mood. Thanks again!

@pickypickypicky: How about an Earworm Wednesdays thread?

What song is playing in your iHead, and can you infect others simply by mentioning a few lyrics?

..in a young girl's heart
How the music can free her, whenever it starts
And it's magic, if the music is groovy
It makes you feel happy like an old-time movie
I'll tell you about the magic, and it'll free your soul
But it's like trying to tell a stranger 'bout rock and roll.

That Old Black Magic - Sarah Vaughn (I know, a lot of you haven't heard of the song or songstress.)

"Come on home, girl" he said with a smile
"I cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child"
But try to understand...try to understand..
Oh...oh....try, try, try to understand....
He's a magic man....oh....he's got the magic hands"

Uh oh, it's magic
When I'm with you
Just a little magic
Inside of you
Takes a little bit of magic
That's true
When I'm with you
(Uh oh, it's magic)
Gotta be magic
Your magic pulls me through

question inclusion in reputation encourages more activity in the social side of woot. An active discussion forum encourages not only more loyalty to woot, but provides more chances for woot to sell you something.

It has a definite purpose and has a place.

@gmwhit: Just got a moment to check back. I only think this would work if the majority of the community agreed to this, as a work around. And I can't really tell from this thread. Of course, Woot may just nix it outright, or the community might rebel, and downvote the earworm questions. Since some earworm questions are fun, I am loathe to stifle them, with knee-jerk reactionary downvotes. I have a crush schedule this weekend, but will check back as able to see what develops here. I will give this some thought over the next few days, and see what I can come up with.

@xavoc: I like the idea of earworm Wednesday, rep aside. Why is it that most earworms are of songs we don't want to own up to knowing?

vote-for2vote-against

@kamikazeken: Don't agree w/you, though woot probably does. I DO believe that questions encourage more activity on the social side. Do not think rep-building questions encourage much more than silly, inane questions to up the rep score. 'Activity' is often initiated by those who have seen the hint, 'Ask better questions.'

Yet, some questions that may be rep-related ARE interesting. I believe that those questions would be asked anyway. I know I would. Forcing people to ask questions is irritating both to the questioner & those reading them. I firmly believe there would be more interest & activity in the question side if questions were taken out of the algorithm.

To quote a line from a song, "It's Kind of a Drag."

Thanks to everyone who posted 'magic' type songs/lyrics. Brought back a lot of songs I'd forgotten, & some I'd never heard of. Fun!!

Going off in another direction here. I love music and always find questions about performers & their songs fun to read. Also, they bring back memories - mostly good ones. But they also start me thinking about other things. In this case MAGIC itself.

Have you ever watched a good magician in person? Wow! No matter how closely I watch, I can't catch how they do the sleight of hand, etc. Most enjoyable - have seen probably 3 & they were all excellent. The big TV performers are entertaining, but.....
