Bambi was the first movie I remember, too. It was playing at the Orpheum theater here. I cried all the way to the theater because I thought my parents were taking me to an orphanage. And then I cried while watching Bambi because it was so sad. I was such a messed up little kid.

Bambi. It was traumatizing. I still have flashbacks to this day.

Wizard of Oz on TV. For movie theater, Star Wars (1977)

My first movie memory is of a demon on a hilltop, it scared the wits out of me. It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I found out that it was part of FANTASIA.

Raiders of the lost ark. Inspird a love of whips and Karen Allen :)

First theater movie was Woody Allen's The Sleeper... My parents were a bit progressive... It took me years to understand what the Orgazmitron was all about... (my wife might even tell you that I still don't!)

An American Tale in the theater, I was 5. On TV, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Jaws. We went to a drive in theater and I hid in the back seat! Didn't go swim for a month

Bedknobs and Broomsticks at Radio City Music Hall.

very unpopular growing up so no going out with friends, and didn't have a lot of "play" money, so first movie i remember was when Back To The Future hit the dollar matinee theater. my brother had a job and a car (that plus i think my mom guilted him into spending time with the kid sisters before he moved on with the rest of his life).

I'm not really sure which I watched first, I think it was probably The Chipmunk Adventure or An American Tail. But I remember watching Dirty Dancing with my cousin a million times when we were really young (and not understanding it), and also Adventures in Babysitting (again, not understanding a lot of it).

The first thing strong memory I have of seeing a movie in a theatre was for Aladdin. I'm pretty sure I saw movies before that, but that memory sticks out for some reason.

Interesting way to discover everyone's age here!

@vistaseas:

Yes, it is.

First movie I remember was 2001, A Space Oddessy. It terrified me and my father had to take me out of the theater. It was very shortly after my 5th birthday.

Masters of the Universe!

Edit: That was in the theaters

I guess before that I remember seeing parts of Return of the Jedi on tv at my grandparent's house.

I remember seeing Black Hole (around Christmas time '79) and The Last Flight Of Noah's Ark at a single screen theatre I also saw Fox and the Hound at in 1980.

I remember Star Wars in '78 only by pictures.

I can't remember the first time I watched a film but the original Star Wars trilogy comes to mind simply because I watched the series at least 20 times with my family from ages 5-9.

Other than that, I remember seeing The Fox and the Hound and The Adventures of Milo & Otis when I was young. I also remember crying to Fox multiple times. It is my first memory of crying during a film. The first of many.

First movie I remember in a movie theater was Gone with the Wind. It must have been about 1970 or so. My mom took me out of school to see it and the old theater in town. I can still remember some of what I saw that day.

Well, if you count the first time I went to a theater to see a movie with the family...it was the original "Big Jake" with John Wayne.

Bullitt starring Steve McQueen.

The Lion King - still my favorite movie

The Land Before Time is the first movie I remember going to the theater to see.

"Attack of the Crab Monsters" in a drive in. When it first came out, BTW.
Scared the bejeezus out of my younger siblings. I liked it.
The one with the giant snails sucked, but this one was funny and kewl.
Well, at the time.

7th Voyage Of Sinbad. At the drive-in. With my little brother and parents.

It probably wasn't the first one I ever saw, but i can remember very early on being taken to go see Poltergeist by my babysitter (she wanted to go see it with her boyfriend, and could only go if she took me and my slightly older sister along). Scared the crap out of me, and was only enhanced by her boyfriend telling us on the way home that the little girl died during the filming. I was positively sure she had been scared to death.

First movie I remember watching was Titanic (and the irony that it's playing right now) back in 1995, where I was 5.

Funny thing was also that my parents used to sneak me in the theater by putting me to the side where the guy who takes the tickets couldn't see.

@squirtle456: I have that demon face as a tat.

Either Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, or one of the Ninja Turtles movies.

My mom and her friend (both were war widows, and I was taken everywhere they went when we were on vacation, as it happens in New Hampshire) - a very odd choice for double feature: "The Song of Bernadette" and "The Unseen" - the later caused nightmares for awhile.

No idea what the first movie I ever saw was, but in the theater, I think the first one I ever saw was Oliver & Company which came out November 1988, so I was 5. I think I also saw Land Before Time in the theater, which was released on the same date as Oliver...not sure which I saw first. I thought I might have seen The Rescuers in the theater, but it came out before I was born.

Star Wars... I know I saw quite few before that intellectually, but SW is the first one I remember seeing.

@nuurgle: She actually did die, but not during the first one since they filmed two sequels and she was in both of them. Was it the third one you went to see? Otherwise, your babysitter's bf was lying.

Bambi! Scarred me for life.

@joshobra:
Dude, Titanic came out in 1997.

Also, mine was E.T. I remember my (slightly) older sister cried near the end. :(

my very first memory PERIOD is waking up in the movie theater, and saying loudly "WHERE ARE WE/AM I?" I was 3 yrs old, the film was ROTJ(original Run). Scene where Luke & Vader are talking down on the forest moon before heading up to the Death Star.

@mrsbeny: Bambi is the first one I saw in the theater. I saw the 1988 theater release as a young child. I remembered the fire scene vividly, and nothing else until I saw it later when I was older.

The Wizard of Oz!! Still my favorite movie.

The Wizard of Oz. And it still frightens me (except for the scarecrow's song, which I love).

Bambi then Benji. Someone wanted to traumatize me as well. The next movie I saw was Superman.
